code reading problems
I have a 94 toyota pickup with the 22re in it! I have been having some pining problems so I decided to jump the TE1 and the E1 in the Diog box to see if I had and stored codes. The CEL just keeps blinking. How do you tell what code you are getting. I thought it would pause for a sec or two. All your help will be usefull. Thanks guys

I thought it was. I will look at my manual and post back!
O.K, in my manual under timing it says to jump those two terminals. It does however say that those terminals will be repeatedly be used during diagnostics in later sections. I will look into this further. Are you trying to read the codes???

No problem...here's a link. Its a T and E1 terminal or something like that.

Here's the Autozone version....http://www.autozone.com/az/cds/en_us...rInfoPages.htm
#7 on Autozone how to:
Codes will flash in numerical order. If no faults are stored, the lamp flashes continuously every 1/2 second. This is sometimes called the Normal or System Clear signal.

I think timing can cause pinging...maybe check out your timing. You have to jump TE1 and E1 terminals then look at your timing. Have you tried running normal 87??? What happens?

Timming is at 5*! I have ran 87 gas and it pings to. Gas dosent seem to change it at all. Can I retard the timming alittle with out causing long term damage to the engine?
