Center console armrest
I’ve got a 1986 4Runner. Need an armrest/center console cover.
I’ve searched and found some cool DIY center console upgrades as well as various center console lockable boxes purchased from around the internet or for jeeps or old cruisers etc. but I want to try to keep it stock or at least original looking.
has anyone found a simple replacement for the center console armrest? I don’t want to take out the center console and replace it- I like to keep my truck as close to stock in the interior.
has anyone found a solution for the armrest- possibly a 3D printed armrest or another DIY solution?

you’re worried about originality? why? you’ve got aftermarket seat covers, a busted shift console and missing shift boots, red interior (the seats) with a different color console (blue), and your seatbelts are missing the stiffener to keep them in place.
nothing wrong with any of it, but originality shouldn’t be a concern. find a serviceable solution for the armrest and use it.

I see armrest covers on ebay but haven’t seen lids or padding so you would have to fabricate i think.

I'd remove that beat to hell console and buy a nice but cheap universal console. That $700 console is over priced. Seen a couple who added an aftermarket and it fit well. was taller for more storage and arm rest height. You will have to relocate the switches to the new console, but there must be a universal housing they would fit in, then screw it to the front of the console.
I have that same center console in my 86 SR5 and if it broke, I'd go aftermarket for more storage
Here's a few that look doable. https://www.ebay.com/itm/12459371685...68a987669e568e

I tossed that original radio+cassette in the trash long ago after it became a serial killer of my favorite tapes. I'd have never guessed someone would want it today.

right?! I tossed a ton of stuff over the years. All the trim in the rear covering the fiberglass top went into the trash and people are paying money for that crap now

Depends how much of a rush you're in. I paid $80 for a complete double stack center console in great condition. Just had to wait 5 years for it to pop up. Got an OEM radio at the local you-pick junk yard for $10. On two separate occasions I got an OEM sunroof shade for $15 to $20.

The tops are interchangeable. I did the same thing as you since the double stacker I bought had a different base. I'm not sure if the different bases were tied to manual/auto or the different manual transmissions that were installed in various years.
The later year consoles can certainly be made to work. 2nd gen 4Runners are plentiful in you-pull junkyards. The look is slightly different and the styling is a bit more rounded and modern.
