catalytic converter question?
I have a quick question for you all. When you take your truck in for a new catalytic converter. Is there anyway I can get the old one back for scrape?
Or is there some dumb ass law that say no.
Thanks ahead of time Jamie.
Also I google and no luck.

I am taking it to because it has the type of cat the needs to be welded. And I don't know how to weld.
Oh and I live in good old California.

To legally get your converter replaced, you'll have to have an emissions test which demonstrates your converter failed. Then you have to take it to a facility which can replace your converter, and they have to replace it with one of the 'legal' converters on the ARB list that is certified for your vehicle.
Basically, you cannot replace your own converter any more.

I don't know yet. I have not taken it in yet.
The reason's I think I am going to need one is:
1: My new isuzu is from out of state.
2:I have a feeling the cat is original.

Just tell them you cant the cat back. Its that simple. They are counting on you NOT wanting your cat back so they can make the $125 selling it for scrap.
Ask them beforehand if they will return your cat. If they say no, move on to another shop. Any shop that refuses to give you YOUR parts back is scamming you. They are YOUR parts, YOU paid for them! In fact, Tire shops charge you EXTRA if you don't take your tires! "Tire disposal fee" is the excuse i believe.

YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE
Just so you know I maybe jacking it for my myspace page.

they can only replace a converter if they take one off. if they don't take one off, they can put one on but they have to record the owner of the vehicle....
you're not getting it are you?
a shop can only recycle one if they took one off... 1 for 1 sort of exchange....
