Update:
The paint on mine wore off slowly after many carwashes.
I repainted them several months ago again and they are still fine.

I got lazy the 2nd time and just sprayed. I couldn't even tell the difference.

Screw masking it off.

I've been wondering that myself. I think it'd look good on the 96-2000 tails. Or is it 96-99 tails? Whenever they changed...

I painted mine a few years ago. I bought some clear tail lights and painted the brake/tail portion red and kept the turn signal clear. Sorta like the 3rd gens. I used Candy Apple red paint (don't remember the brand--Krayola maybe? It was a rattle can)

Looked good for a while, but the paint statred fading and my co-workers were asking why I had pink tail lights. I figured it was time to take them off. Haven't gotten around to repainting them though. Someday...

I haven't painted my Tails Red on my 3rd Gen. But I did Remove the Amber Insert inside the lenses and then Smoked the entire exterior of the lenses!!

I did do this same Candy Red mod on the tail-lights of my 1st. Gen. Looked pretty unique with the Clear band of the Reverse lights between the reds...

And for those 1st gen. drivers your can do the same mod to your brake lights to fix the fade'n lenes..
