Camping and Exploring rig

A number of places.
You have to retrofit it into the housing, you have to grind a few slots into the housing, but that's nto too big of a deal if you ask me, or swap axle housings from a later rig.
If I have 4.10 gears, I might get it either from the Dealership that support my 4x4 club, or I migth get it from Marlin Crawler.
If I have 4.56's I will try to find a used locker, and put in a new set of gears and bearings. OR see if I can order one from the dealership with the 4.56 gears.

That rack look nice but be carefull. Most factory racks aren't designed to hold much weight usually less than 200lbs. But consider when you are going down the road at 100km/h that whatever you put on top will create some sort of lift. I worked at a ski/bike shop and I sold many racks Thule/Yakima and people were throwing on expensive boxes on factory racks....some came back after their box created an uplift, resulting in more pressure on rack that tore the whole system off...just a word of caution for ya. You should be fine if all you're putting up there is a "soft box" or something of the like.

Those rough roads, to get into places like your talkin', demand a shock absorber upgrade, for maximum comfort. Don't skimp. I'm sure most folks agree. I was suprised it wasn't on the lists.

Yeah, definitely for comfort. It's just amazing how the ride off-road smooths out when I crank my Rancho 9000s full-stiff. I don't know how much it helps the capability but controlling the body better can't be a bad thing. Plus, again, way more comfort.
Watch the "self-adjusting" type - I was reading about one brand (can't remember which - a popular one) and the3y were saying that they softened up when the going gets rough. It may be a bit counter-intuitive for some (it took me awhile to wrap my mind around it) but that's the opposite of what you want....
As far as a basket goes, the Surco ones they sell at Summit seem to be the best deal out there - I'm planning to get one this spring.
