Blew the head gasket again. project time

I blew the head gasket again. This happened three years ago after I did an engine swap (22RE to new 22RE with port and polished head with RV cam). That time it was all my fault. I neglected to re torque the head studs and blam. I end up changing out the head and all the other gaskets. Did it all according to the service manual and made a point to re-torque the head studs and then rechecked the torque again.

Fast forward three years and I start getting some extra engine noise and then, just after filling the gas tank up, smoke. I blew the 8 dollar NAPA head gasket. There's another adventure in getting the truck home but its in the garage waiting to be torn down.

I'm starting the process with and LCE carbon composite Street head gasket and gasket set. Im also getting their 4-1 header, Cat and Pro-Street exhaust system.

While Im tearing into the engine I want to make some modifications and Im not quite sure what I could do. What I was thinking of doing is blocking off the secondary air injection manifold and the EGR. I dont have emission laws to meet here. I'm just wondering if this will have any added benefit, preventing hot exhaust gasses from being recirculated. I really would like to take off anything that's not nessesary

Any other suggestions as to what modify while its all apart?

Toyota HG works good. Any idea why it blew? How many miles?
