you can do black on black in the engine bay you just need contrast. i gloss black block would look good in a satin or flat black engine bay. you could always mix it up with some pinstripes or something to.

i am a fan of painting the engine bay black because
1. it looks good Maybe
2. if you ever decide you want a new color the bay will match anythingsure
3. it looks goodAgain Maybe
4. it hides all the nastiness that tends to accumulateAnd also hides leaks that forms
5. best time for a little corrosion protection on the fire wall and inner fenderswell yea
6. if you paint the block it will really pop in a black engine bay Isnt the block going to be black?
7. wiring and hoses just aren't as noticableSo how ya gonna find leaks..?
8. leaks are easy to find on semi-gloss or satin
9. one more custom touch
10. it just looks good

One quick question for you guys though. Is an impact gun the ONLY way to get the center crank bolt loose? I've tried the 4wd-low range with a 2ft cheater bar, and the truck just keeps climbing over whatever block I put against the tire, lmao it's standard thread too, correct? not reverse thread?
put it in 5th gear 4 hi, less torque to the wheel blocks. 190 ftlbs or so is a bitch. Or you could hook up the starter and put a breakover bar on the top side of the driver side frame rail and bump the starter that usually does it for me.

dude, i vote for doing a spray on bedliner like the rustoleum stuff and then painting it white... i like black engine bays on trucks too... black trucks... white trucks require a white engine compartment...
and if i just rebuilt a motor, i would want to know if ANY little thing leaks...
but then again, i wouldnt paint the block black either... why not paint the block hammertone silver... thats what color my brother in law's 22r was painted... his head was painted red with the ridges on the top painted silver... looked really sharp... his truck was charcoal color and it popped real nice...

Went directly from work to my buddy's house today, to pick up his MASSIVE hoist to use and gutted the ol girl!
and as you can see, I've got my work cut out for me before any paint get's sprayed...
and to add to my growing pile of parts, how about the entire motor, lmao
and because my sister (which I'm currently living with) is having a garage sale tomorrow, to make it a little less white-trash looking, I at least covered it with a tarp
So, it's going to sit there for the next 2 days I'm not going to tare into it while my sister's in the middle of a garage sale tomorrow, and Friday my mother's coming into town for an early mother's day thing, and we're going to take her out to dinner and stuff. I might take the injectors tomorrow and box them up and send them out to witchhunter to get cleaned, rebuilt, and flow matched (all 4 injectors, and the cold start injector too ), but that's probably all I'll dive into.
edit: oops too late looks like 10 people told you what to do already.

the flywheel bolts were still a PITA once the motor was out, but a striking a hammer to a foot long ratchet on them seems to break the locktite grip pretty good

oh decisions, decisions, decisions...
the other option I was thinking about today, maybe keeping the same black engine bay, and painting the block red?

Got Grime?
You could go hang it from a tree branch in your front yard. That would look classy.
Thanks for the pictures. They are fun to look at.

oh and if you noticed guys, the hood DID have to come off
Oh, and on a side note:
1) I found that my rear main was leaking a LOT more than I had thought, leading to that mess in the bellhousing
2) #1 intake valve has OIL running down it, that's visable looking into the intake runner on the head I guess that's where the oil smell was coming from, lol
3) there's a white-ish spotted buildup inside the exhaust ports on the head (I'll try and get a picture later), but any idea what that comes from?
4) I finally drained my oil once the motor was out (I know, waited long enough, but it was a lot easier not having to crawl under the truck to remove the drain plug, lol), the the stuff was charcole black, and I just changed it not even 1500 miles ago... I will not be suprised if I find a broken ring on one of the pistons...
