anyone else dig this far into a motor, and see those little indentations in the crank, that look like holes leading to the center of each rod jurnal, and see that they have a bunch of build-up in them, and try to clean them out thinking that the build up is going to stop some sort of oil flow, only to discover that there's actually allen-head plugs in there lol, I spend a good 10 minutes finding that out for myself, lol. if you done it, you know what I'm talking about; if you DON'T know what I'm talking about, then nevermind this post, lol

and yes guys, probably another month before all the odds and ends are all tied up, and she's back on the road daily... I know, it hurts me too, but I'm thinking logically here...

also, on a completely different note, has anyone else been having issues connecting to YT lately? I keep getting this "Database Error" a lot, while the rest of my internet is working fine... I hit refresh, and nothing... wait about a minute and try again, and it works... it'll do it to me 2 or 3 times a night...

oh good, then it's not my computer lol

I'm guessing it just has something to do with the forum server vBulletin being a little quirky

oh well...

Back on the subject, maybe tomorrow I'll get the head on and torqued down

Bleeder, only 12lbs tq on the timing chain tensioner, or it will distort the body and not work smoothly (as per instuctions from engbldr). I couln't remember what I tq mine to, had to pull the cover off and check.

did you oil down those rings and cylinder walls before installing those pistons?

i always check the ring gap also, but you have a fresh bore so its probably perfect.

looking good bleader!

I noticed the Allen plugs when I had the engine out of my truck before. Even at 180k there was minimal sludge. I guess the PO at least did regular oil changes.

Yeah, I have been getting database errors since around Friday. I saw something about a server upgrade or migration in another post, so the admins are probably just getting it all sorted out.

yes and yes I checked the ring gaps before even painting the block, lol

and yesterday as I installed the pistons, I was sure to put a good coat of oil on the cyl walls, then coat the portion of the piston sticking our of the ring compressor with oil, and then once the pistons were in, I put a little more around the outside of the piston while it was a BDC, and turned the crank a half turn to spred it

I'm trying to make sure I don't burn things up on first startup, lol

Yes I know my rocker arms look like crap I honestly TRIED to clean it as much as I could... if I would have thought about it before hand, I would have taken it to the machine shop too to get glass-beaded... but nothing's going to fall off and clog up an oil hole, and everything looks and feels really good on it, so I think it'll do

hahaha

well hopefully I get home at a decent time tomorrow, and I can bolt a little more to the block

I have to drive down to Miami AND back tomorrow for work... going down there to take ALL of the branches inventory out, and bring it up here to my Orlando branch... yay... but, it beats sitting behind a computer for 8 hours, like every other day

It doesnt look like you put any rtv around the front of the cover? Im pretty sure you are supposed to put rtv between the cover head and gasket? I forgot to on mine and it leaked eventually

hmmm.... the best I can find is saying to only put some at the joint of the timing cover and block, up at the top where the head gasket is...

the head gakset did have a thing bead of RTV-like material on it to set against the timing cover...

but, as insurance, I may pull the timing cover back off and put a bead around it; the cover's not torqued on yet, just the head is, so removing it is no problem

thanks!

well guys, no work getting done this weekend

My father was originaly going to be out of town, so I was going to knock a few more things off the list in preperation to drop the long block between the frame once the clutch kit comes in, but he's coming home tonight, so I'm going to go spend father's day with him and wire up his father's day gift; a 5.1 wireless surroud sound system in his living room
