I found a few more options for shocks to use with the cruiser coils. These are all 2-4" lift shocks for a 78 F150 (same as 5009)

Skyjacker Hydro Series -- H7055 Extended Length (in): 22.75 (The H7055's are a little short, but still one inch longer than the N72F's)
Collapsed Length (in): 13.54
Upper Mount: Stud
Lower Mount: Eyelet $32.99

Skyjacker Hydro Series -- H7056 Extended Length (in): 24.75
Collapsed Length (in): 14.54
Upper Mount: Stud
Lower Mount: Eyelet $32.99

Skyjacker Nitro Series -- N8056 (Same as H7056 but nitrogen charged.)

Superlift Superide -- 85300 Extended Length (in): 26.00
Collapsed Length (in): 15.50
Upper Mount: Stud
Lower Mount: Eyelet $33.95

Pro comp ES9000 Series -- ES926510 Extended Length (in): 26.79
Collapsed Length (in): 15.56
Upper Mount: Stud
Lower Mount: Eyelet $34.95

Pro comp ES3000 Series -- ES326510 Extended Length (in): 26.79
Collapsed Length (in): 15.56
Upper Mount: Stud
Lower Mount: Eyelet $32.95

Pro comp ES1000 Series -- ES126510 Extended Length (in): 26.75
Collapsed Length (in): 15.58
Upper Mount: Stud
Lower Mount: Eyelet $25.95

Rancho RS9000 Series -- RS99009 Extended Length (in): 26.12
Collapsed Length (in): 16.00
Upper Mount: Stud
Lower Mount: Eyelet $89.95

And if for some reason you need to go REALLY long.
Superlift Superide -- 85310 Extended Length (in): 29.78
Collapsed Length (in): 17.66
Upper Mount: Stud
Lower Mount: Eyelet $33.95

Nice contribution ThomasJ. Has anyone found OME or Bil P/N's for a 78 F150 application?

I called skyjacker to ask about the valving differences between the 4Runner and F150 shock. I was informed that as long they are the same series shock (hydro, nitro, etc) there is no difference in valving. So you dont have to worry about a shock being too stiff for your pickup or 4Runner just because it is made to fit a different vehicle.

I am going to call rancho and see if they say the same for there shocks.

on edit: I called rancho and they said there IS a difference in the valving on their shocks but it is minimal. He said the difference between the RS5187 (4Runner shock) and RS5009 would be about 20%. Enough to notice but far from "too stiff".

The Bilstein online pdf application guide only goes back to 1980 for the F150. I'd still like to know if there's a Bilstein for my truck with a 1.5" lift.

I just got my Cruiser coils installed with Skyjacker shocks. The fender to rim height is now 16 inches drivers side and 16-1/2 passenger. You cant tell a difference between the two sides unless you measure. For those wondering about the ride, it is EXCELLENT. It very soft and plush feeling. For those of you concerned with the Ranchos being too stiff, the Skyjackers are an excellent choice. I didnt think a lifted 4Runner could ride this smooth.

The shock number I got was H7056. They give up 1-1/2 inches of droop over the 5009s. I did this so I didnt have problems with the fuel tank contact. It seems it is the "perfect" shock for this application because it maximizes droop without causing any of the stock parts to move beyond there limits. It is very flexy, way more than my old downey coils. The only thing I had to modifiy was the lower bushings in the shocks. They had to be enlarged a little to fit over the mounts. This was no big deal really.

How do the OME front shocks ride? I'm looking for new shocks to use with my BJ spacers and I'm interested in these? What kind of ride quality do they give? Firm... Soft..??

They are a firm controlled ride. They made mine better than the factory ride in my opinion.

I agree with Strapp22. I also have the OME front shocks and they have been great!

Rancho 9009

I was wondering what setting those of you with the Rancho 9009 use for everyday driving. Also, how have you liked this shock in the rear. I'm going to be lifting my 4runner soon with cruiser coils and I kind of like the idea of being able to adjust the rear depending on if I'm towing anything or not. Thanks,
Chris

I have Rancho 9009s on the rear of my truck and they also have been great. I have them set on 3 for everyday driving and set them on 5 off-road or when I'm carrying a heavy load. If you forget to set it back to 3 its like your rear axle is running on rails. They have a ton of extension and work well with the cruiser coils.

Edit: I hope you're also planning on lifting the front somehow. Otherwise, the cruiser coils are going to have your butt sticking way up in the air!! Mine is that way even with the BJ spacers in front.

Thanks for the info on the ranchos. I think that is the way I'm going to go and OME in the front. I'm going to do balljoint spacers in the front. I'm still in the parts collecting stage. First I'm going to put aisin hubs on, I think they arrive today. Did you crank your torsion bars at all or did you leave them where they were at after you put the balljoint spacers in? I don't think I'll mind my back end being a little bit higher, I can't stand my saggy butt!!! How does your 4runner feel driving now compared to how it was stock? Thanks,
Chris

Sounds like you have the right idea. Definately install the Aisins FIRST. I didn't and one of my CV boots ripped right after I installed the BJ spacers.

The ride now is great. Maybe even better than stock. Make sure you get an alignment ASAP after installing the BJ spacers because the steering/handling is all out of wack until you get that done.

Edit: I didn't touch the torsion bars because I'd rather have more flex than increased ride height.

Good luck

bj spacer, cruiser coil pics

Well, I got them installed and here are some before and after pics. The rancho 9009's work great out back and the OME N98's are great in the front. I really like both setups, the selectability of the rancho's is awesome, especially that people are finding a wide range of spring rates, widths, and heights from cruiser coils.

Glad you like your setup. Looks good. No more butt sagg!!! Did you get an alignment done yet? If not, maybe you can get it partially paid for (or free if you're luckly) under the steering relay rod recall.

Hahaha, looks good. What size tires are those? Also, what year did you use? It seems like I got a little more lift than that... Still looks a million times better than it did...

The tires are 31x10.5 and I can't seem to wear them out. The coils were from a 97 cruiser and I got 4.5 inches on the driverside and 4.75 on the pass. side. The running boards make it look a lot lower, but if I take those off my tires will look really small, ha ha. You can't tell but there is still a bit of rake from the back to front. My measurements before and after (measured from top of 15 in. rim to fender no body lift):

front both sides: 13.25" to 15.75"

rear driver side (shorter coil) 11" to 15.5"
rear pass side (longer coil) 11" to 15.75"

ground to bottom of rear bumper: 18.75" to 25.5"

This is still my wife's daily driver and the only complaint is that she has to put the tailgate down instead of just rolling down the window and reaching in. I can't wait to put 33's on and sliders. Keggo, did your 33x12.5's affect your performance very much? I think I might just go to 33x10.5's for now till I can regear.

The 33" dim is what affects final drive ratio, not the width.

I knew that, but I thought I read somewhere that the mpg was better with a narrower tire. I probably should have wrote that question better.
