Bad head gasket(3VZ-E), only in the US?
My 4runner has started to lose coolant, slowly. At first couldnt see anything but after awhile i noticed that there was coolant dripping down from back of the engieen. There seems to be no internal leak. I contacted Toyota Europe about the Hg recall. They said this:
"This campaign was never implemented by Toyota Motor Europe. It is highly possible this is a USA only problem. Indeed, despite the engine type is the same as in European vehicles, the final specification of the engine can be different and, due to specific usage conditions in the USA, the problem only occurs there and not in Europe"
Any thoughts? If this is true, is there anything in the back of the engieen that might leak coolant?
Thanks for everything!

how many miles you got on it? just because it doesn't have the head gasket recalled on it doesn't mean it doesn't have a blown head gasket. I would still check it out and try to get it fixed before it gets bad. just my .02

It has 143k miles (i think, 23 000 000 km). How is it possible to know if it is really the Hg? I havent seen any of the signs of a blown hg. Forgott to mention that i added "radiator-plastic" or what ever it is called. The leak has stopped now and has been ok for about 4 months.
Thanks for you reply!

one way to check is to do a compression test on it. you just gotta go to a autoparts store and buy the gauge. its pretty easy to do you just have to warm the engine up so it is to operating tempature ( it will give out more accurate #'s with the engine warm) now, take out the spark plugs and screw the end of the tube connected to the gauge into the sparkplug hole. you will have to disable fuel pump by pullilng the fuel pump fuse also disable the ignition by pulling the coil wire. now take off the air cleaner hose. when you have the gauge screwed into one of the sparkplug holes, make sure the throttle is at WIDE OPEN, now crank it over 5 or 6 times. and redo the procedure on all the remaining cylinders and make sure you record your findings. all the cylinders should be within 10% of eachother. normal is around 170 PSI minimum is around 140. main thing your looking for like said is all to be within the 10%. hope that helps
