Ac idle up valve

In this photo I have not yet installed the VSV. However the AC system has been.
I recently installed AC in my 80,000 89 pickup 2.4 RE with column auto, power steering and I need the correct AC idle up valve that screws into the intake. The VSV is still available from Toyota and I have that. Any help is much appreciated! Dave

That is one clean 22RE!

I used part# 88606-28010 & did what TLfromAI did in the below thread (see post# 36)

I have that same idle up vacuum piece, just has one less larger port like that one. Those original idle up valves are like hen's teeth! So tee in that power steering vacuum hose with the larger hose from very front of throttle body and viola! I honestly have never heard the idle increase when the power steering is turned hard left or right. I wonder if that vacuum valve on the power steering is working...hmmmm. Now to find that special T fitting! Thanks! I knew if I posted this issue I would find the answer! Let you know how I make out. Yes, this truck is immaculate...I thought I had posted pics when I joined but no. Coming soon! Dave

Ok, VSV & Vacuum valve on intake installed and tee'd to front port & power steering vacuum line. Not working so I removed the small vacuum hoses on the VSV (basically bypassing the VSV) connecting them together and it works. So it looks like I have no voltage or ground at my new VSV. This truck did not come from factory with AC so I am wondering if there is a connector behind dash that is not plugged in sending 12v and/or ground to the VSV? The AC kit provides you a relay, fuse holder & the push button AC switch that just slides in the dash. May have to pull glove box out and look for a factory connector that is not plugged in.

Ok, Just checked for voltage & ground with test light with engine running and AC energized..I have neither. Must be a connector that needs to be plugged in behind dash. Anyone run across this before after installing AC?

Thanks Paul...wondering what #3 is? Looks like it grounds through the ECU.

This thread may shed some light:

https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...please-176714/

Some quotes from that thread:

"The current applied to the AC idle-up VSV flows through Terminal 9 of the (AC) Amplifier ->Ground, activating the VSV"

"So if the vsv isn't getting switched, I'd say the most likely reasons are either the tps isn't grounding IDL to E2 when throttle is in idle position (closed), in which case the ecu doesn't think the throttle is at idle, hence no need for idle-up, OR, bad wiring between ecu & vsv."

Somewhat, Having no ground or 12v at the VSV connector tells me there is a connector unplugged behind dash possibly. I am basing this theory on the fact the truck was not equipped with AC from the factory. However, everything wiring wise was installed. I will remove the glove box area soon and see what I can find. I've been running all summer with the idle set higher than normal for the compressor load. And probably burning more gas! Thank you Paul!

#3 goes to an Engine Coolant Switch that is ONLY present on 4wd Autos. That's because the people who drive those are especially big and bad, and don't need no darned cold air when climbing big hills!

I don't think it's ever seen with the 22re. ('Cause those drivers are never big or bad.)

The A/C Cutoff relay is in a round can, mounted next to the evaporator.

Thanks, It's been garage kept since new....I am owner #2. It was loaded up with lots of options just not AC......Column auto w/overdrive, Long bed, body graphics, power steering, power brakes, Chrome appearance package including chrome grill, chrome door pulls, tailgate pull, trim rings, front & rear bumper & wheel lip moldings. Sliding rear window, body color dual sport mirrors, carpet, upgraded cloth seats, & door edge protectors. I had the pristine bed sprayed with Line- X 3 years ago. Original owner installed the AM/FM CD player. The original front brake pads & rear brake shoes are still in place. As is the original Bridgestone spare tire. I can't express how dependable this truck is & has been, well you guy's know...it is the most dependable vehicle I own and I own several. As soon as this Hurricane Dorian leaves us I will snap a few pics for you. Dave

Wow!

That is one clean truck!

There are not too many of this generation long bed Trucks.

Is the A/C system you are installing from a kit?

If so, what kit?

Actually I installed it April 2017 and have been raising the idle in the Spring for the compressor load.....I purchased it through an AC company I have been dealing with for about 23 years in Texas, Ranshu. The kit was from a company called Better Made Air I believe in Texas as well. The idle up kit was not available then and did not come in the kit but was sold separately. See if I can find the original paperwork...

This is a page from 1 of 10 of their installation instructions. Looks like they came up with their own version of the VSV, the round switch with the mounting tab which I did not receive at the time.

Did you ever find out why the connector had no power? I’m having the same exact issue with my 95 v6 4x4. Installed new vsv and idle up valve. Connected vacuum circuit and verified operation by bypassing vsv. Connector sitting there waiting for it but no voltage when AC button pressed, therefore idle up valve does nothing.

Nick I've been absent for a while. I actually forgot about this site until today! Ha! I am getting back on this issue at present. As I stated a while back I bought this complete ac kit from Better Made Air Products a few years ago. My truck has just about every option except AC so I installed it, Yesterday the tensioner bolt that screws into the compressor bracket became loose. I went to tighten it and the threads in the bracket stripped. I have been battling this for at least the last 2 summers. This aftermarket rig is less than ideal. I have decided to find an original compressor bracket with the tensioner. The original compressor is available. The condenser they supplied back then is too small, 14" wide x 17" tall. I have always had higher high side readings when it gets above 85. Of course high readings means less cooling and accelerated compressor wear. I found a larger surface area condenser today and its on the way. Once I have installed it and the new original bracket (when I find one) I will get back on the idle up issue. I apologize for the lengthy absence! Dave
