so my head unit started acting up
first the amp turn on voltage stopped working
The radio is a Sony XK-R100
There is no internal amp
So no amp = no sound
I jumped the amp turn on from the battery voltage in to the amp, but then the head unit jammed on the cassette tape.
So - time to extract the head unit
what that stain?
WTF - it looks like some kind of liquid stain???????
stains only on the TOP of the radio!
and the stains are only on TOP...
Ugh
Im guessing - mouse pee
lost of it
$#^&#^*$#@(^
I loved that head unit.
Time to visit Crutchfield...
Alpine CDE-HD148BT CD Receiver
And - because its really hard to reach for the controls, especially when wearing a Schroth harness...
Alpine RUE-4202 2005-07 Wireless Audio Remote Control
I am gonna miss that Sony "joystick" wired remote...

WOW! Those mice really love you truck.
May I ask what horns you're running? Wanna upgrade from stock, too.

Its build date is 12/88
The truck was a bare bones base model.
No radio, no antenna, no AC
I had the dealer add "factory" AC.
I installed Pioneer 4T sized speakers and a PROTON branded head unit.
It was a slide out unit.
After a few years I upgraded
-- a small 2x20 Sony amplifier
-- a Sony 7130 head unit. Slide out, no amplifier
Then I added a pair of Bose 101 indoor/outdoor speakers bolted to the roll bar.
I powered them with a Sony XM-4520 - 2x45 watt
I upgraded the 2x20 with a second Sony XM-4520
and then got a small pioneer 8" wedge box sub.
And a XM-505 ? cross over - eq / sub driver
I used an Infinity DPA-275 amp in the mix
Later, the TS-1018 speakers in the dash were swapped for a Boston Acoustic 4" with separate tweeters
The tweeters were installed in the dash, in the corners, firing upwards to bounce off the windshield
the Copper Chassis is a Sony XK-R100 head unit. Pre amp only.
I ran a Sony CD 10 disk changer with a stand alone remote control to the Aux In on the 7130 head unit
the R100 had changer controls, so I could get rid of the remote control
I think I went through at least 2 10 disc changers (they died after a few years)
I also in the early years (1991?) had a Sony portable CD on a "mount plate and arm"
It skipped pretty bad tho...
(thinks - so thats where my 1990s paycheks went...)

I did a "temporary" install of the new head unit.
The RCA connectors will probably have to be converted to right angle ones. Sony had the right idea on their older units of placing the RCA inputs on a 3" cord so you didn't need right angle adapters.
4" Boston speakers are great for vocals, but yeah - this system set up as it is now is seriously lacking bass...

Lucky you to have a truck whose history you're fully aware of.
I also think Boston Acoustics would be a great upgrade to the stock in -dash speakers, especially to get clearer vocals.
Which model did you use? With physically separate tweeters?
On mine, I plan to buy a component set with 6-inch woofer for the rear, and I'll mount the tweeters at ear-level on the A-pillars.

Also have the SR5 speaker boxes. I had to shave down the exterior ridges that fit the 4t speakers... Used weatherstripping to seal speakers to speaker box. Discussed in a couple threads:
