about to buy enginebuilder RV cam, some questions

Sounds like you might need to purge your cooling system because you might have some air pockets in there after the rebuild... That is if it only does what you say when your foot is on the brake...

I'm not sure I understand the relation to the brake/brake boost and air pockets in the coolant? I can understand the air pockets, then the temp sensor is not getting the correct reading but what does the brake have to do with that?

if anybody wants to know the ACTUAL specs for the engnbldr cams here they are
261C...222° @ .050" lobe rise, .410" max valve lift (based on 1.547 to one rocker ratio) 110° lobe center.
268C...218° @ .050" lobe rise, .425" gross valve lift, 110° lobe center.
270/430 ..222° @ .050" lobe rise, .430" gross lift, 110° center.
*Note they sound similar, they aren't. Different lobe shapes and ramp speeds.
268C is low to middle RPM.
261C is off-idle to redline.
270/430 is 2000 up.
just in case anyone is curious
i didnt even know about the 270/430 cam..haha..if hes right about the 261C being off idle to redline..im DEFINATELY getting it..lol

maybe it only does it on the brake, ill check tomorrow. i have noticed im getting SUPER CRAPPY mileage... filled up with 91 (per mechanics instructions to flush out 5 month old gas) yesterday, and today im at half tank. either the cam is causing the engine to eat a LOT of gas, maybe im too used to a V8 and trying to get it to perform like one, or the 91 burns a lot quicker than regular. i know its running a bit rich. other than that ill be doggoned.

well, i filled up my 13 gallon gas tank on my pickup yesterday, drove about 90 miles since then, and my tanks half full. freeway driving.
its a fresh rebuild though, according to allan, once i do the 500 mile oil change and retime it, it should be fine, that its running rich cuz its retarded due to break in. at least thats what i got from him...

Your 268 cam shouldn't give you bad mileage or crappy idling.
I've been running one on an engine rebuilt about 15k ago. The engine often idles very nicely at 750 rpm (though sometimes it jumps up to 1000, who knows). Gas mileage usually hovers around 20 mpg.
With the 268 the 22re does really come to life around 3000 rpm, doesn't it? I find it's great for pulling long grades, seems to be very happy at 3-5k and WOT.
Are you still getting headers? I'd be interested to know how they work out for you since the 268 is a mid-range cam. I've always been too cheap to get a set for my truck!

yeah ill be getting a set as soon as i can. i think its just not timed... so if i can get ahold of a timing light (mines at work and i still dont know how to use it.. i can use the old ones, not the new ones with the knob on the back) ill time it, if not it will wait for saturday, when i work next.

I'm running the 268 as well and I do like it. I just installed a 2.25" exhaust from just below the little Y collector and that seemed to help as well. I also removed the CAT for now. Seafoam helped out my idle. It was not real bad just a bit off. A can of that and it really smoothed out. I should of but didn't clean the upper intake when I had it apart for the HG replacement, I cleaned the TB with some Gumout and a rag the other day and that helped as well. Give it a shot...Make sure your timing is at 5 deg PTDC.
I think I average about 17-19 mpg at best on 31X10.5. Taking into consideration of the speedo being off and trying to compensate for it in the math.

yeah, according to my mechanic, the afm was bad from not being secured to the body. its running a lot better, but still. i think i might have figured out my lights on problem... (engine shudders and drops RPMs then goes back up when i turn lights on, engine will misfire with the lights on)... when i installed my amp, it said to use 6 gauge wire. i used 8 gauge. every1 ive asked said thats probably it, since it never did that before i installed the amp.
i also think my random idle(sometimes will idle perfect, sometimes will hunt for an idle and if u floor it, the rpms will drop and the engine will just shudder, especially with a load on the motor) , is being caused by a bad IAC sensor, or valve, whatever the IAC is. (idle air control). after my surgery next tuesday (i plan on spending a lot of money this weekend on alchy, since its the only weekend i get off, and the 4th.. anyone want to hit up some clubs in san diego??) i plan on doing a full tune up on it... spark plugs, wires, o2 sensors, the whole kibang. maybe that will help

when you guys put your rv cams in, did yall put different rockers in or did you use the stock rockers? i ask because somebody told me when you change cams your supposed to replace the rockers too.
