about to buy enginebuilder RV cam, some questions
okay, so i just got my tax refund (YAY!) and im about to buy my enginebuilder cam. however i have a question on it that isnt directly answered in any posts i saw. (the search button is my friend, but not this morning)

id like the .268 cam, but can only find the .261 (crawler) cam available for individual sale. am i not looking in the right place, or do i need to buy the kit for the .268?
and do i need to buy the camshaft as well, or just the cam? any help would be appreciated!!!

The cam and camshaft are the same thing, Cam being a shortened version of the word. I have a pacesetter header on my 22re, and I am not impressed. The O2 sensor is placed way back by the cat, rather than at the engine like it was on the manifold. Therefore i had to extend the wire quite a bit. Also, there were issues with the fit of bolt on stuff where the air manifold was (i think. it was removed or didnt exist on my motor when i got it, and i'm really not sure how it worked etc. i do know that it leaked exhaust. Not from the the motor to header connection, but on the back side. I had to do some creative stuff to it to make it not leak too bad.) In other words, i would recommend staying away from the pace setter.

im at their site right now...in the hotLicks part...and im seeing the 268* cam right under the 261 C cam...so its there...same price...
just call em and place an order..or pay pal or whatever.....

if that works...theres a Hooker header...i've heard they are great..and are very well known for their quality products..and its about the same price as the Pacesetter..

In autmotive terms, cam and camshaft are one in the same. The cam lobes are all machined onto the camshaft, so its one unit.

okay, just got back from vegas and didnt have computer access. i drive mostly on road, but there are some hills. and i do offroad when i can. i dont think i need the crawler cam... what would you guys suggest?
i do maybe 70% street driving, 30% offroad driving.
the .268 would be my best bet, right?

I have the 268 and love it! x2 on the lumpy idle, though. If you're not sure what to get, call 'em! Ted was VERY helpful and fast in responding to my questions when I was trying to decide.

you know some people use the word "cam" as a verb, as in "man that's car's camming hard!", like when I built my SB Chev for my Monte Carlo and put a Comp Cam Thumper in it, and it sounded OH SO good through the cherry bombs

dunno about the cam, iv heard yays and nays about engnbldr stuff. as far as the header goes.. iv got a downey on my 4runner.. sounds good, not so into the chrome finish though.. but it came on it when i got it. my friends have had or have the ceramic coated LC engineering header, sounds awesome and the finish holds up good. we put a pacesetter header on my friends mazda b-serries pickup in highschool.. it sounded ok.. but the finish was lacking and if i remeber right he had a problem getting it to seal on the head good, i think he had to take it in to a shop and have the gasket flange re-surfaced.

yep so true, but with the power at the bottom all i can say wow, before i had a stock cam and well down shift up hills like a trucker on the fly. Now it just takes them like a champ with little down shifting and i pass toyotas! brewhahaha!

if anybody wants to know the ACTUAL specs for the engnbldr cams here they are
261C...222° @ .050" lobe rise, .410" max valve lift (based on 1.547 to one rocker ratio) 110° lobe center.
268C...218° @ .050" lobe rise, .425" gross valve lift, 110° lobe center.
270/430 ..222° @ .050" lobe rise, .430" gross lift, 110° center.
*Note they sound similar, they aren't. Different lobe shapes and ramp speeds.
268C is low to middle RPM.
261C is off-idle to redline.
270/430 is 2000 up.

honestly, mine's give and take... I wasn't going for looks or even performance at all, so the fact that all of the black coating flaked off doesn't really bother me. but I don't have any leaks to speak of at the header, so it's alright I guess... but it sure does look horrible...
