93 runner question

93 runner question
i just picked up a 93 runner. It is a 3.0 5 spd. It has a problem. It was an original auto truck and now is a 5 spd. The previous owner said it stalled and didn't start again. It cranked and cranked but nothing.
When I was bringing it home I put in 3rd and pop started it and it was fine. I started it by the key multiple times after that.
The previous owners mechanic said that when the tranny was changed they shouldve changed the computer also. The truck doesn't know what gear it is in or something. I think maybe it has a bad neutral safety switch..
Can anyone lead me in the right direction of what to check?
thank you

i would see if when they did it if they just jumped the wire connection under the truck, thats what i did and it starts and runs fine with the auto trans even tho im running a 5 speed.

The neutral switch is bypassed when removing the A340...a lot of people just use a jumper in the end of the connector and I've heard of them coming loose or corroding, causing an intermittent connection and, in turn, intermittent starting issues.
I kept the auto ECM when I did the swap and have had zero issues. You would have to swap wiring harnesses if you swapped to a manual ECM.
Edit - Justin beat me to it.

okay i found what i think is the neutral switch, it is on the pass side frame. There is a one wire connection, where wires were cut and twisted together no tape or anything. The whole unit plug and all are really dingy. I am going to clean it all up and secure that wire connection and maybe put some dielectric in the plug and see what happens....

the switch itself is pretty worn (noticed after cleaning it up). is this a part you can pick up at the local auto store? the actual "switch" part of it ( the lil round part that turns) seems pretty loose. I got it into position where the truck starts and jb welded it to see what that does. Do these parts go bad? How/where would i go about getting a replacement.
thanks
