'93 pickup rattle when steering right
Hi All, Me again. Always wondering if someone can clue me in before i spend another several hundred dollars while the shop runs down a problem.
When i'm driving down the road and have to steer right, around a curve, there's a hollow, metallic, rattly sound in the front end. A simple Google search tells me this could be any of numerous suspects in the suspension/steering categories. But maybe if i give you some more clues, we could narrow it down.
Clue #1: It only happens if the road is rough and rattles are happening anyway... on a smooth piece of pavement it's silent. But on a bumpy stretch, i turn right and on top of the usual rattling i hear that funny sound like metal in a tube or can (the "hollow rattle," i call it); but when i turn left, nothing besides normal bad-road clunks and clashes.
Clue #2: Just a few weeks ago i had the Center Support Input Shaft bearing and the front U-joint replaced. Could this have anything to do with it? Or, is there anything the mechanics would have seen while doing this job which, since they DIDN'T see it, we could rule out?
Thanks for any ideas about what to ask the shop to look at.
