have you checked what fuel pressure you are getting?

Tried to borrow a fuel pressure gauge but was unable to do so I do not have alot of tools just basic timing light and hand tools.

It seems like it has to be something very simple i am wondering if i could be out by a tooth on dizzy and still be able to run the way it is atm.

vacuum/fuel pressure testers are pretty cheap online... 20 bucks at harbor freight or walmart. It would be wise to invest in one.

Can't remember if someone has said it before or not, i thought i had, but set motor at TDC, pull cap off of distributor and see where the rotor is pointing. It should be pointing at the #1 tower on the cap.if it is not, you'll know if your distributor is off a tooth. Or thats how i did it on my sbc when i was learning, the concept should be the same.

Yes I did that and it points to number one I have taken a pre app to auto tech so am not brand new just have not twisted wrenches in a while. It seems to me that the timing tests out fine in all aspects I am almost ready to bite the bullet and bring to a shop but am just trying to give it a few more days to try anything else before i have to pay someone

I think I am onto something I just plugged both sides of the EGR vaccum connections and the truck idled right up not sure to what exactly as I was alone but there was a big change. Now from what I understand this is going to close the Egr completely meaning i have some sort of a leak when it opens or??? I will plug both end of each hose tomorow and try and drive it to see what happens

The FSM link previously posted has an emissions troubleshooting section. It's probably your best help. I do know that EGRs can clog w/ carbon causing issues. I would think a foaming intake cleaner like Amsoil would be okay to run through the exhaust tube (but not in the vacuum control housing -- maybe a pipe cleaner or something liek that there...).

Now it is spitting fuel out of the tail pipe I though i seen injectors wet with fuel so took off and added new orings to the top. Now it is running so rich it is leaking fuel out of tail pipe could it have been pressure regulator all along?

Raw liquid fuel leaking out the tail pipe is very unlikely. Gasoline would have vaporized far before it reached the end of the tail pipe.

That much raw liquid would have already damaged the engines internals anyway.

The smell of fuel may be evident due to miss fires.

Clarify the fluid from tail pipe..?

-More than likely moisture.

It seems you have narrowed your problem around to EGR system malfunction.

-An EGR valve that is stuck open/leaking all the time will cause tremendous engine performance problems.

-Triple check EGR vacuum line/hose routing. There are multiple service manuals with emissions diagrams that show this. As well as the diagram under the hood.

Try unplugging the main vacuum hose at the EGR valve and run the engine.

-Does engine performance improve...?

If Yes.

Then you have found your trouble area.

I just confirmed that it is indeed gas coming out just put 25 in nearly half is gone and it was not drove I tried and it lights its gas.

I currently have egr off and on not much of difference anymore from what I can tell.

Thought I had it with a new coil this am as mine was out of spec nope not it idles better but when i floor it 3000 rpm is max doesnt go anywhere fast and after a short drive it will die.

Tested Afm all tests seem to be positive along with tps.

Seen leaking injector and added new orings to tops of injectors and thats when the fuel started pouring out the tail pipe like nobodys business

How you're not blowing fire out your tailpipe I have no idea!

But seriously, you're Cat is likely destroyed now btw.

As far as the cause, I'd think it has to be some combo of fuel pressure unit and fuel injectors... Don't think either on its own would go through gas that quickly.

You're sure none of the other connections on your fuel rails are leaking?

Okay pretty sure that was my bad and was vaccum mix up and that problem is gone.

I took my return line off of the regulator and there was no fuel coming out at idle or when revving the engine. I read that there should be fuel coming out could this be a sign of a fuel pump failing?
