yeah that diff is pretty resilliant. when i busted up my rod bearing and had to get it towed home the idiot tow tuck drvier hooked his flatbed hook and winch to the axle tube which was completely undone from the chassis as I had dropped the pan right there in a field. held up just fine. I told the guy there is tow point on the front on the frame. He told me the axle tube is an authorized to point the tow point aren't hmmmm I was waiting for that entire axle tube to launch onto his flatbed lol. I didn
't care cus I saw dollar singns and a LT swap woulda been in order.

good morning YOTATECH land.

well, today is the day I feel ready to put the head back on.....hoping to get some extra hands and eyeballs out here....if not, it will be me and my son's but hoping to get some "taller" help as well...yes, no lie, the head is heavy but not all that heavy, just awkward as hell with plenty of places to get hung-up while doing this.

here's hoping I find some help........

well....................on it is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

decided, I have done this essentially physically solo this entire time, so I made a plan and did it.

UMMMM...yeh, forgot about putting that back driver's side head bolt in before putting the head in....so I crawled inside the engine bay...yes I did....gonna have some very peculiar scratches in some strange places...but what the hell....and I picked up the head and dropped that bolt in.

shoelace tied around the upper sprocket is what i did...Joe's job was to thread the shoelace through and hold it tight....the other guy's (age 8) was to stay in the house....some words Joe has heard before, the little guy hasn't....luckily, didn't have to unleash any profanity anyway.

finger tightened 1st, then with just and extension in my hand and so on and so forth.....probably made no fewer than 8 passes until i was ready to torque.....was queasy with fear by this point that something was gonna break, but nothing did. Torqued them all and the rechecked all of them too.

and to finish it off, i put the "hidden" bolt back in.

and I used Black RTV where I questioned about it.

pics to follow.........and motrin.

so after i washed up a little, i said out loud, i'm not going to be able to relax until i get the cam bolt back on.

took a little wiggling (pulling UP on the passenger's side of the chain apparently pulls the tensioner in just enough), a little bloodshed but i got it on....and torqued to 58ft/lbs per the FSM......and I gave it a twirl via the crankshaft bolt and NO CRUNCHING!!! woohoo!!!!

pics...cuz it happened.(pardon the blood please)

a few observations....

very important to get that 1 head bolt in part way unless you want to crawl in there like i did.

as OCD as i am, i cleaned the surfaces very well for the gaskets as well as the bolt holes.

a golf club makes a good wire holder

a shoelace makes a good way to hold the top of the chain

if you are going to use zip ties, when you go to cut them, lock on them with vice grips 1st...alot harder to lose vice grips down the hole that a 3/4'' piece of plastic.

i guess that's it for now......

Good deal man!!! You keep this up and you'll have her running today!!!

Don't forget about the PAN!!! Kinda need that thing.

Too bad Easter is tomorrow, kinda shoots your day for wrenching...

At this point you only have about 3 hours on top to get it buttoned up...maybe 4. The lower end will take a bit though. I hear that the pan can be a pain to get back in.

If you don't bleed on it a bit it's not yours.

thanks bud.

how's it going?

i'm hooking up my webbing contraption right now to do the crankshaft bolt.

I just busted the bolt out of the bag from LC Engineering....I'll be able to fly their colors officially too...hahahahaha

Easter will be busy in the morning with baskets and Church and all that.....but, the wife is off too, so that means (to me) that I will be out there until i run out of steam.

Congrats!

x2 on being careful with those zip tie ends. When I was tidying up some wires I clipped an end off that flew up and landed on the baggie covering my carb.

I'm so super g-d paranoid, I always envision the worst and work for the best outcome.

saran wrap is covering the head again, valve cover is on it but no officially, wanted to try it on and I thought i'd just leave it there for a while.
