morning......ya know it's just about 6am here.
I don't have a bench grinder......I've been wanting one of those for a while.
was going to try to booty-fab something up....maybe I will.
the valves seat very nicely now, I'm glad I let everyone talk me into doing that....was going to be one of those regretful things if I didn't.

started with this........
then i put lapping compound on it and smooshed it around....
they all ended up looking like this
took about 20 minutes to do all of them (wear glasses....oops..was not at 1st)

next thing is to look through my box of gaskets to see if I have a "rear plate" gasket and a "front block off" gasket......

Don't worry about that lil bit of compound in the eye...it will remove some of the old eye tissue and you will be able to see much better when it heals

ahhhhh....good point.
going to TRY to re-assemble the head today....have to scrub the springs etc before putting them on.....then going to try my hand at doing the whole valve re-assembly thing.

I think I may have found the gasket fro the rear plate........ going to run down and size it up....the plate is still on because I didn't want to fool around with it and not have a gasket.
as far as the "block-off plate" goes.....not immediately seeing a gasket....but i have a baggie of them on the roof of the truck.......why the roof? because nobody but me can reach them.

But...what i did get done was.....
put 4 complete valves back in.
cleaned and cleaned the stuff.....I am soooooooo glad that I organized things the way I did......makes it very easy and safe to play with these parts.
few things....
-used a dixie cup to put some oil in for dipping purposes.
-used an 11mm socket on a 2'' extension for seating the valve seals.....and a little "persuasion".....my advice is ease it on with your fingers, then push it on with the socket / extension thing and the give it a few taps
-it is VERY EASY to get the springs lopsided after releasing them...2 of them seated askew and had to be adjusted.
-a little vaseline on those keepers makes them easier to work with and makes them "stick" where you want them to, prior to releasing the spring.
got each part squeaky clean and then dipped them in oil and just let them drip off the excess prior to installing.
as per the FSM, I gave each valve stem a little rap downward with a gentle tap and a paper towel to protect it.
Time to eat something......
