yes, lots of pics....between this thread (that's why I marked it as page 25 to start), my pictures folder on my computer and photobucket, i should be OK. I just get anxiety seeing all those bags...I'm going to separate them further into exhaust and intake side bags, so i don't have to rummage through all of them.


and it is VERY true, I know sooooo much more right now.

When I did mine I had put the head in they attached the manifolds. Your right no need to make it heavier than needed.

When i did mine just a couple months ago i put both manifolds on first then put it on. It was HEAVY! LOL

When I did mine the intake and exhaust when in when on the head, but the head went in with the engine too, now that was heavy as hell, I know it took 4 of us to lift the engine when on the stand down 4 stairs off my front porch. hahaha yeah I know no help.

I'm catching up now that my Percocet blur is gone. I ran into the same issue labeling. I didn't know what everything is called in the FSM, and still don't. I got pretty creative, and months later wondered what exactly I had meant by "bottom hose on ugly thing on fender" or whatever. The saving grace was pictures taken while labeled but before removing. Very helpful. An example:



Also, take pictures of your bags or bagged bolts pointing to where they go. Makes it easy to match up descriptions and parts:





I also took some shots of parts taken off at each stage with labeled baggies next to them:





I hadn't thought of holding a labeled baggie up next to the part until I saw someone else had done it. Seems so simple, and it's a great way to keep things matched up, but until someone mentions it...

Take lots of pictures of everything along the way. Don't forget some wider overview shots, which are helpful later for figuring out how hoses or wires were routed, the order you took things apart, etc. You can't take too many pictures.

I am cussing myself right now for not doing a better job labeling my wiring harness. I did put tape on everyone with a number that coresponds with where it goes, but a few of my labels have fallen off or got smeared with grease & are not readable. I guess the lesson is to take your time & be patient when you take stuff apart.

I really am glad that I lapped mine, it was pretty easy, didn't cost very much & I think I will see good results from it. You couldn't tell until you took them out but my exhaust valves where nasty. I had to lap the crap out of them to get a perfect finish.

today's list is very short....clean the top of the block and finish cleaning the head bolt holes.
1 sick kid home from school today, so not sure what's going to be going on today.

and since cleaning those bolt holes is such a royal pain, I am chunking a day to that. since I don't have an air compressor, I'm thinking of using carb cleaner to clear out the dry stuff.....a quick PFFFFT of the stuff ought to eject it out of the holes.

I did the same thing with the carb cleaner, just use the red straw & it should have enough pressure to blow out most of the dry stuff, then maybe a shop vac to clear the holes?

yes...i will.

and saran wrap the top of the block to keep the crap out.

Ive found running a head bolt oozes the oil out....repeated several times of course. and then i took a little screwdriver like the one you use to fix glasses and scraped loose stuff.
