thank you , thank you.

LUMPY....someone had questioned whether I needed the swaybar to get the truck inspected....so I'm guessing, a NO?

so here's the plan for today.....

break out the pressure washer, run to town and get some degreaser stuff.....no auto parts stores there so i may have to use some of that orange stuff.......i wasn't impressed with the Engine Brite stuff anyway and it smelled very petroleum-like and i'm sure paint won't stick to that anyway.

1) de-skank the oil pan
2) snap some pics of the crank so we all can feel a little better about everything
3) read up on the Timing cover / chain replacement stuff

assuming that now is the time....I probably should start taking off the timing chain guides / tensioner and get set to scrape and clean up the front of the block where all the timing stuff goes.

as far as the top of the block goes...the head gasket is still in place....was basically leaving it there to give me some sort of seal until i was ready and able to clean that all up.

i have a can of acetone...i believe that is what is in carb cleaner anyway...and being that the crab cleaner / brake cleaner stuff in the aerosol can is hard to control (and bad for the eyeballs) i think i may just keep it at using the liquid i could pour on a rag.

i wonder if i could soak the screen end of the uptake tube in a little acetone?

try leaving the whole oil pump pickup tube in acetone. Or find a shop that can hot tank the pan and pick up.

why do i always run into you when i get home from work?

hey, good morning.

i will check into that......i have a copy of the PA Vehicle Code somewhere here....that came from some research after i got busted by a State Trooper for having tires(31-10.5-15's) that stuck out too much....and this was less than 2 weeks after I got my truck inspected (with those tires)...but the trooper was cool and let me slide, but I took the tires off anyway as to not be a DI_K and act like I was untouchable...I've met the Trooper a few times since then (we have alot of interaction with them at work) and he said "I wasn't going to pull you over again for it." but what about the rest of them. I know most of the guys but not all of them. But in almost 18 years of driving with those size tires, he was the 1st to pull me over.

Most decent automotive shops should have a parts washer of some sort. We had one at the shop i used to work at. I loved that thing, valve covers oil pans, trans pans, any dirty greasy oily part you could fit in there even blocks came out sparkling clean and warm. Chances are some places might do it for free.

for the pick up though you'll want someone who can hot tank it. That way it'll clean out the inside of the tube really well.

Acetone, kerosene, break cleaner, pot of boiling water for the hot tank (joking). I'd clean all I could I think you'll be able to get it shiny again.

As for the swaybar it all depends on who you take it too. They probably won't notice it missing, not something that usually just falls out, ya know. For inspection you "need" to have all the equipment working. If it's not there is it "not working". hmmmm
