I think you already established contamination, due to the fact that your oil looks like coffee.

I'd try to explain how to do it, but dropping the oil pan in a 2wd is an order of magnitude easier than 4wd from what I've read and experienced. For me it more or less amounts to "crawl under, unbolt pan, bathe in black oily rain." Of course, I wish I hadn't removed my oil pan in the end; found bits of plastic, which is probably not a good sign (no spoons yet), hope my timing chain guides last until spring so I can save up for the LCE dualrow conversion.
Of course, the write-up you referred to was the next to last one. No surprise.

Oh definitely I have to clean my pan out. No question about it.

Oh yeah.....couple,two, tree weeks (xxxtreme22rwould understand what that means).....Where's allthe trees in Nanticoke? Between the 2's and the 4's.

Clean? You probably want to just replace the pan if it's had coffee sitting in it, I bet it has a nice rust layer growing on it.

Also, why don't you just pull the block? Aren't you rebuilding it? Seems like it'd be easier to rebuild, let alone remove the oil pan, if the block is out of the engine bay.

If anyone has actual pctures that correspond to this thread, it would be greatly appreciated

I think I'm going to PM and ask if he could label these pictures and give how-to-remove instructions for this thread

Good job posting them in your own thread for later reference. It'll take me weeks though to go thru them all. LOL

Hope that guy gives you labels for his pics, that'd be nice.

Thanks Phil.

Actually, I was messing around with the search and narrowed it down to those threads. Unfortuately, it searches by the individual words, in my case I was searching 22re OIL PAN REMOVAL....so apparently those were the threads that had those words the most???? I was able to go through them kinda quickly because those words (for me) were lit up in red and I was looking for OIL and PAN to be next to each other

The best ones I found are the ones I listed as BEST and the one I said I would (and I did) PM the original poster.

As you can see, I haven't really gotten too far, but for a first-timer I'm miles father than I ever dreamed I could be.....with a few fumbles along the way.

Like I've said before, hopefully when I'm all done, this thread will be a pretty realistic rebuild for anyone who has NEVER tried anything like this before. And, likewise, I've documented the pitfalls I've encountered along the way.

Probably would be a good idea for me (when I'm all done) to do another thread minus the spider pictures and goofing off so someone searching doesn't get real aggravated.

Thanks for checking in. Any help is appreciated.

I didn't look through all the links, but 2 show or describe removing the front crossmember to lower the diff. Is that a good idea? I read a post somewhere saying not to.

With weight on the front I'd worry about things going out of whack. Is that a valid concern?

any concern is valid until i hear otherwise. I need to at least get jack stands before I do anything crazy.

I'm concerned about jacking the motor...for a few reasons. 1 is that I'm essentially a 1-man show. 2nd is I'm concerned about the fuel line, 3rd is since I'm by myself, I'm not going to be able to be watching the engine bay and under the truck at the same time raising or lowering.

If rolling the diff down is what I need to do, I will do it, I just wish I could have some pics with circles and arrows and a shopping list of what to do.

I may just post some pics and ask everybody to mark them up for me with what they know.

Just pull the radiator, motor mounts and bell housing bolts and pull the the block out you know I did mine by myself so it can be done just go very slow as you jack the motor out on the hoist then you have all the room you need to pull the oil pan and you can paint the block at the same time while it is hanging on the hoist.

Here's a little incentive for ya

I added a little bling bling today ala L.C.Engineering

Pardon me....doing some sorting.......for my reference......

On PARTYPEEPERS THREAD https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...99/index4.html , JAY351 said "I simply unbolted the 3 diff mounts and I was able to rotate the diff down out of the way. I didn't have to touch that brace.

I did have to unbolt the oil pickup tube before I was able to pull the pan out."

Gonna be posting some pics of PARTYPEEPERS's as well....I did PM him yesterday seeing if he could post those pics with labels. If not, maybe someone else would, especially regarding the quote of JAY351, maybe someone could point out what he's talking about.

Totally giving credit to PARTYPEEPERS for these excellent pictures from his thread.

Hopefully someone could mark these pictures and give me some guidance.

Next 4 pictures are NOT my truck , this is from PARTYPEEPERS's thread.......

And, of course, if anyone has good pictures, post them up.

You realize of course, if you just went out there and spent the time wasted asking for pictures instead of trying to do it, you probably would've figured it out and had the pan off by now. It's a freakin' oil pan on a truck, it's not really rocket science.
