i'mthinking i need a similar device for the head bolt holes.....suggestions??(besides cutting a bolt)...............it seems to me those threads in the holes are crapped up with dry oil and wet oil and i'd like them cleaned out so i can reach proper torque when putting the bolts back in.

why is there oil in some of the holes? will i be able to chase that oil out? why is it in there in the 1st place? is it supposed to be in there?

on an earlier post there was a recommendation of getting a spark plug thread repair thingy from harbor freight. the question of is it a 14mm that i needed came up. any suggestions?

Probably a dealer only part.

Sorry, no help on the other question.

Yes crap gets in there. Run a tap down the holes to clean them. Also blow them out with compressed air and maybe top it off with some brake cleaner and a final shot of air. Good info from Roger Brown here:

Ok..........here's a question.

I know I've seen mention of this or that Toyota dealer is the best to deal with on-line. Throw me some bones. who do you guys suggest? it seems that almost no matter what dealer site i go on i end up in the same search engine.

Run it through one of these guys sites to get a ball park price on it. I've purchased from both and both are very good, just watch out for shipping, it seems to very a lot. Sometimes its cheaper to pay a couple bucks more at the local dealer, sometimes not.

thanks for that. with so many sources for info, i forget even the ones i've read already. i posted a link to that thread on page 1 of my thread. i'm a dork today i guess.

blowing air across creates a vacuum, right. no air tools or compressor here.......think-think-think......maybe i could borrow one for that purpose.

why is there oil in those holes?

thanks....got some running around to do today, there is a local garage that used to be a TOYOTA dealer that now says he specializes in working on them. he is only about 8 mies away versus the dealers are about 25 and 30 miles away. i bet the local guy gets OEM stuff.

Yeah they all seem to use that Trademotion software but they must set their own prices individually. Run that bolt on the 2 I gave you and 1 is 8.50 and the other 9.20.

I had purchased a few items through the Toyota Parts Sales in the past but last time I needed something the shipping was goofy, like $34 for a $68 part. The other site has a 10% of total bill fee and minimum of $9.95 so I got my $68 part and kept throwing in crap like oil/air filter until I was right near $100 to get my $9.95 worth out of it. Worked out well.

$8.50 + $9.95 s&h = $18.45 from the one

$9.20 + $10 s&h = $19.20 on the other

so now at least i have a starting point........much appreciated BLKNBLU

You might just want to make a list of all the crap you need and get it once from 1st Toyota since you can run the total bill up to $100 before you hit 10 bucks shipping with them. Other piddly parts are bound to come up along the way.

No, not really. His kits are really complete. Unfortunately, the stuff that comes up is usually some oddball thing you can't really anticipate like your bolt, or you tweak the power steering pulley (me). Or drop and crack the distributor cap. You know, something like that

At least I know it's out there. Guy said it's the same one on that engine from 1977 on according to his stuff........why change a good thing i guess.

Sounds like you have a bunch going on...

Have you tried emailing Ted from engnbldr to see if he had the bolts you are looking for? This may be a dumb question, why are you changing the crank bolts?
