the only reason why i got a new one is that i found one cheap and wanted something brand new for the rebuild. gotta clean it up a bit but.... i think i had it dipped already, but still got some gasket material and such

As I recall, and as I've posted, pulling stuff apart doesn't cost anything....assuming that you aren't driving that with bent valves.
Nope not driving her around at all...she's a sittin. Yes I know it doesn't cost anything to get it apart but it does take time away from other things I need to do.

Sunday after the wood burner goes in I'm going to start on the runner. I have to get at least 1 head done. I'll have plenty of pictures for you.

Enough of my story...
The head looks nice and clean now, lot better than it was. Keep up the good work man.

I'm going to get another can or 2 of that stuff.......I have to go fix a toilet at my mom's house right now......that kinda stuff I'm more used to, construction and stuff like that I've putzed with for most of my life. This mechanic stuff is all foreign to me so that's why I'm so slow and methodical with it to the dismay of the viewers LOL!!!!

As far as your 3.0 goes.....when we bought the 4runner it was sold "with a blown head gasket" which still may or may not be true......but it definitely needs valve cover gaskets, so a tear-down is definitely in it's future and I will do the heads and timing components etc...while I am there......so make sure it's (your thread) a "1 stop shopping place" when it comes to doing a re-build.......OK?? For me?

It's the thread of "what not to do's"

Hilarity is abundant in here.

Sorry for the random short sentences.

but after reading your posts.

Yeah the latest "not to do" is to NOT spray brake cleaner in the eye. Other than that, I've been good for a while

This is a great built thread!!! 21 pages and it's still during tear down. If it was not for this thread I'd be bored at work.

92 just messing with ya bit. Your doing a fine job and thanks for the info about the brake cleaner and the eye. I'll be sure to try and avoid it. PB Blaster usually get me.

This is a good thread and I'm sure a lot of folks will use it for info.

I think it was BLEEDERS that half-way on page 1, tear down was complete......and here's mine with pictures of spiders and crickets and talking about fixing toilets................

Bought more brake cleaner and also some carb & choke cleaner and some toothbrushes.

Hey XXXTREME2R.....I was going to call you but I ran out of time, I was in Nanticoke, but after 2 trips to the hardware store and repairs, I had to hurry up so my son isn't standing out in the cold when the bus drops him off. I want to see that truck.

Thanks.....

Probably going to have to mak a Cliff-Notes version for the hard-core-don't-want-to-see-pictures-of-spiders-in-a-rebuild-thread peoples.

Are there still Cliff Notes??? Does anybody even know what I'm referring to??? Boy, I sound old.

Buy some safety glasses or a face shield already, sheesh. There's no way your eye needs that kind of extra lubrication.

I have both, wasn't using either of them. But seriously, I didn't expect it from about 4 feet away.
