It'd be a good idea to pull everything apart clean and lube the places that need it. Your adjuster bolt may be frozen so clean and lube that as well.

I'm still waiting for pony pictures. Horses, donkeys and mules are all fine, but those little dinky ponies are worthless at best.

I missed whatever was mentioned about an oil leak/drip. It dripped while up on the lift? If it's oozing from the pan, I'd try snugging up the pan bolts a little. Not much, just a little extra. Of course, if you had pulled the engine, sealing the the oil pan would have been easier.

Ted advises checking/retorquing head bolts after the first run, and again at 500 miles. He told me there is no need to after that. Marlin, OTOH, rechecks head bolt torque each time he adjusts valves.

Several of my head bolts turned a surprising amount after only a few runs (heating/coolng cycles). I checked them again at 300ish miles, and none budged. I'm using Engnbldr's gasket and his bolts torqued to 64 ft/lbs.

Those brakes and the dust the provide make for great lungs, many folks in Liby MT have great lungs:cry

NO, lol...jk, ...and THAT'S THE BASTARD PIPE that I had to replace! My machinist and the Toyo-Lexus Mechanic I talked to today said "YOU REALLY should use that O-ring, ...the RTV CAN work, ....but if that flange is plum, the o-ring should do it all by itself. Plus, you don't want RTV floating around in the cooling system...be careful". Not trying to freak you out, just sharing what I heard today.

BTW, SO SORRY you're dealing with this new headache, J! Got my fingers crossed and said a 'Rust Loosening Prayer' for ya! lol.

soaked the 2 bolts and other parts of that CRANK BELL thing....what a stupid name...

the one bolt seems conveniently behind the area where the wheel studs are.....i have a sinking feeling about this.

so, once again the FSM , Haynes and Chiltons are mostly worthless for this repair....although it seems fairly straight-forward i'm learning more and more it's very tough to step out of your realm and expect to find any directions for someone who has NFC.

i don't know what you guys are talking about rinsing or anything like that.....it's dusty, not rusty in there....if you mean wash away the dusty stuff, sure, i could do that....just more concerned about getting these levers (bell cranks) removed, cleaned up, lubed and re-installed.

crabby, i'm crabby......i mostly rebuild an engine and i'm thwarted by my frigging emergency brake.

as per TOYODIY.... i think this just may be the big metal part, nevermind the other parts....

if i cold get the G-D things apart, I probably could refurbish them....from what I read, that's what needs to be done.....it's apparently bound up real good in there.

so anyway...drum is back on, what was unhooked, is hooked back up. truck is out of the garage, parked out of the way....more pressing matters right now, namely have to get one tire for the cadillac to replace the bologna skin one that is on there.....so the cadillac and my truck exchanged places for now...

thought i was gonna get something accomplished today...pic taken about 630am today



1st order of business, besides getting the drum off is to get this pin out...it too was bound up and took a bit of convincing to come out.

OK...offer accepted...but i'm gonna be gone most of the day today, so today is out.
tomorrow, working all day...so tomorrow is out.
saturday, have a christening at 11am and then a party for said christening after that....so saturday is MOSTLY out.

sunday....have to be a good guy in the morning (church) and then sunday about 6pm i always have to run down to work and prepare reports....so most of sunday is out.

monday and tuesday working all day

On a happier note, i did win a CB yesterday on ebay...never used Radio Shack brand trc-503.......$60 new, shipped to me for $22.51....so yay me on that one
