i swear i remember someone saying that the timing chain / head gasket repair was well over $2000. the lowest estimate i had for just doing the head gasket was $1000.

yeah i'm loading it up based on what i remember and the pics i have.
few things....photobucket has the pics as i loaded them or moved them around. is does not and cannot keep them chronologically correct...so it's a big PITA to do that.
I'm trying to get the bulk of the pics in, details in as i remember them and then i will probably edit most of the posts as i see the need to fit more details in.
when it's all done, it should be pretty sweet.
leaving in 15 minutes to try to get the truck inspected...wish me luck.

I have very little experience mechanically and did a compression test on my 89 4runner. had great compression in 1,2 and 4 but #3 cylinder was at like 75psi. a friend of mine did a test and found out that it was a exhaust valve leak. so i went out and got a good used head an gaskets and swapped the heads by myself, never doing anything like that was a little daunting but so far have been able to pull it off, tonight well be the final test when i put the exhaust manifold on and turn the key. point is it isnt that hard to do the work yourself and alot less money.... goodluck on your test.....

Hey Jerry!!
Hope your inspection goes as planned. Just don't let em look at the oil pan!!
Anywho. Did your gasket set include a gasket for the coolant tube to the intake? The one Alex got didn't have one and he ended up on a wild goose chase to find the proper size O-ring to seal it.
This be the one...
By the way, I like the new thread. Great idea. People might give up sorting through the 121 pages of posts on here, 37 of which dealing with a pesky oil pan drop. hehehe.

Here's a pic of what FAIL looks like....but of all things, it was for the non-functioning E-brake....never even use the thing and that's probably why it failed....maybe if every now and again i would have, the things wouldn't be frozen up. Oh well, he said otherwise looks good.....oh and a cursory estimate of $300 to do the oil pan.....if that's not incentive, i don't know what is.
so now, i have to read up on getting those apart to lube them......coises!!
PS...that puddle is NOT from me...that's water that was already there....i'm dripping ever so slowly, not hemorrhaging.
