thanks Joe. Nice to know the timing marks on the TB will not hit the mark every time. I think your probably right that the crank is one tooth off. It loosened up a bit after I got the first belt cover on and I suspect it moved one tooth then.
Is this where people do the 10 and 12 degree ahead timing? Is that accomplished by setting the crank pulley to the '10' mark when the cams are on their marks? What does that do to the engine? I'm really just going for factory settings, so I'd assume I just want to leave it at 0 though.

All the timing marks on the pulleys and covers need to line up when you install a TB. The 10* and 12* thing happens later when you adjust the timing by rotating the distributor slightly during the final tuning phase. For now, make sure those marks line up, and stay lined up after a couple of engine rotations. (Again, the marks on the belt are helpful for the initial install, but focus more on the pulley and timing cover marks, they need to be spot on.)

Turns out the timing belt was okay. Those pics are just a little deceptive. It is more a function of camera angle than of the timing being off. I turned the engine 360 degrees 3 or 4 more times and every time it hit the marks dead on
As soon as my replacement VSV comes in next week I should be able to get the rest of it together!

having some trouble with the vacuum hoses. I found this link though:

it's helping a bit. I have another question but photobucket doesn't seem to want to upload tonight...

looks like this is the only pic of any value (not much) of that hose. I wrote "reed" on that hose.......not sure if I was right or even what I meant by that......but let me run out and see if I can see what the other end is connected to (it's a jumbled mess out there)

OK...yes, indeed, I found it.
passenger's side wheelwell........3 sensors? are together.......it is attached to the sensor closest to the firewall.......the hose on his is marked #4, so look for that on the pics
Hope that helps you

I think I've got all the vacuum hoses figured out now! Bump for an answer on that bracket (post #65) before I try and get it together this afternoon

After searching through all the engine illustrations I think I may have found it:
I think it might be that part 17125. This illustration isn't real clear on where it goes though. I'm about to go out to the garage and see if I can make it fit somewhere. If I get it I'll snap a pic and throw it up here later. In the meantime, if anyone else wants to go find it on their assembled 3.0 and throw a picture up you are more than welcome to

Okay, does this look okay? It feels like it fits right, but can anyone tell me if that's what their truck looks like?
and from another angle:
And it's got a little plastic bracket for 2 spark wires, which makes sense cause it's past the first cylinder so would only need two.

I think I'm missing that bracket (well more like theres a good chance I threw it somewhere) and holy labeled vacuum lines! I just went with the "poke and hope" theory every time I had the top end apart...

Question regarding the leftmost bolt on the PS pump bracket in this pic. My truck doesn't have that bolt hitting anything behind the PS bracket. Is it supposed to be bolting in to something? Seems weird that it wouldn't attach to anything.
Also, my AC doesn't work. Anyone see a problem with not putting an AC belt on there? It got destroyed during disassembly.

There is a bracket that comes up from the right (passenger) side of the AC compressor, the PS bracket bolts onto that. Here is a pretty good shot which shows the bracket and PS bracket bolt protruding from it. (I took a bunch of pics during disassembly so I could get everything back where it came from.)
