i would so power is running to solenoid only and not back into the ecu or anything,
here is how the manual says to check them . go to page 26.

So... I finally got my tranny dropped, and the Torque Converter out... I saw in the suggested fsm that I need a special service tool to test if the torque converter is functioning properly... is there a way to check it without that tool? If not, does anybody know of a place to order one? Im guessing the local schucks/o'reillys or autozone probly doent carry it....

After searching online and calling a number of local auto part stores, as well as transmission shops, looking for the sst, I just decided to try and test the Torque Converter with regular hand tools... I managed to find a chisel of some sort that fit into the inner race of the torque converter, and when i turned it, the clutch would spin freely in both directions. according to the fsm in the link below it should lock up when spinning counter-clockwise.... so i guess the torque converter is my issue.... or at least one of my issues.... I still intend to dismantle the transmission and inspect the gears and whatnot.... but im really hoping it was only the converter

ok.... so I am in the process of tearing down my transmission and rebuilding it... but i cannot find diagrams or directions at all for dismanteling... there is lots of information on removal and installation but not on the actual disassembly... i did find one diagram i have posted below but it doesnt have the information i need... if anyone knows where to find more info on disassembling an A340h or if you know where to find a transmission manual that has more than removal/installation i could really use the help. thanks

So my transmission is shot... the outer shell is cracking from the inside... anyway im looking for a new one at the moment and im just wondering if you can swap out an A340h with a different model of automatic transmission? I know the A340h has an integral transfer case so I would need a new transfer case if I swap but im not sure what else it might take to replace it....
Also.... I went to a scrapyard and they have no clue about the models... I told them I need an A340h and they didnt know what I was talking about... they looked up the transmission in there parts catalog by the details of my truck but there was one deciding factor.... Im not sure if my truck has the Auto Differential Disconnect.... how can I tell if my truck is equipped with the ADD?

Did your rig come with manual hubs or auto hubs? If auto then you have the ADD system.
Your front diff with ADD will have some extra vacuum lines and things on it.

The front differential does have two vacuum lines to it... as for the hubs... I read up on manual and automatic hubs and im sure I dont have manual hubs but there is another type of hub, "live hubs" and what I read says that live hubs are always locked and that is what they use on ADD equipped trucks... it also says that automatic hubs are used on NON-ADD equipped toyota trucks from '86- '89... does that mean they stopped using "live hubs" in '89 and switched to automatic hubs for ADD?
