91 4runner ran out of gas. no start.
So I have a 91 4runner with a 3vze. Got it about 3 months ago. Miles died at 245k day I got it. So I live in the mountains and pitter patter into the gas station two days in a row. The second time after getting gas it stated rough but drove fine to my destination a few miles away. Leaving there it started fine. Stopped at Napa to get fuel injector cleaner. Leaving started fine. Got to gas station. Put in cleaner and filled up. Started and dies in seconds before pulling out. Then won't start. Open hood to OVERWHELMING gas smell. Finally found puddle of gas and possibly oil or just soot from air filter under air filter. Take off air filter. Definitely coming out intake. I'm assuming "drying out" messed up FPR and/or injectors causing mass fuel overflow. Plus when I did my plugs recently I noticed some had a little oil meaning worn piston rings? So what I've come up with is draining fuel. Check injectors. How do I check the FPR? How should I flush the system? And if the piston rings were worn would that mean that gas overflow cloud get down in the oil? Any and all advice helpful and appreciated.

Not saying this is what you have going on but it does sound very familiar. I have been down this road. Read this thread.
