89 toyota p/u exhaust manifold leak
Hey guys I'm new here... looking for some advice. I went to get my 89 toyota pickup 22re smogged and the mechanic told me there's an exhaust manifold leak, maybe due to warpage. Therefore I wouldn't pass smog... (I'm in CA) At this point, being a college student, Im thinking I want to replace the manifold myself.
1. How hard is this job? I do general maintenance on my truck but have never done major work. I'm assuming that it is mainly gonna be unbolting things, replacing a gasket and bolting them back on. Although I think the bolts have to be torqued right? I'm pretty confident I can do it I just want to be sure I know what I am in for
2. What is the best/cheapest way to do this? Buy a used manifold? Get mine resurfaced? Buy an aftermarket one?
I'm a poor college student so I'm trying to do this with very little money, I'm trying to be realistic though. Also, if anyone by chance lives in the San Luis Obispo CA area (I go to Cal Poly SLO) and would like to help me or has an extra manifold laying around let me know!
Thanks!
Jesse

I'd say pull it, have it resurfaced assuming it has no holes, and put together with a new gasket.
Aftermarket manifold/headers can create even more problems with CA smog test.
Use the FSM link to a Factory Service Manual that will show you everything. Also, search for threads here.....they do exist.
