89 22re will start but will not run
my buddy has a 1989 hilux, 22re.
he recently bought it non running figureing on a simple fix. well a few hundred $$$ later it is still not running.
truck will start up, runs for maybe 2-3 seconds then will die.
has a new in line fuel pump, new fuel filter, new pressure regulator, new injectors, fresh tune up.
there is a banjo bolt on the side of the intake that if you take it loose the truck will continue to run, but spays fuel everywhere.
i have searched on this site and others and do not know what to check now, out of things i can think of.
any other idea's? we would like to get this thing running as we have a wheeling trip planned in a week.

well the fuel pump is hard wired to a fuse in the box that comes on when the igniton is on, not to factory wiring so i know the pump is working all the tie.
i will see if i can pull any codes off it later today.

It might be that your fuel injectors are not grounded. When you have gas spraying out that coldstart injector it makes a good ground for a while. Check that the ground cable on the wire harness is securely installed. If you can't find it then just run a wire from your chassis to the fuel rail.

that woulda been my guess, the afm. make sure it is plugged in. Also, look at the top of it; it should have a factory seal ed bead of silicone around the lid.
does this bead look tampered with or cut? If so, someone has been in there, and screwed something up... possibly pulled some of the wire leads going to the plug in cable.

sorry for my ignorance, AFM?? seen it mentioned in my searches, but not sure what it is or where it is at.
i will check the ground, possibly run a new one after turkey day

just looked it up, easy enough to spot and check looks like. i beleive it is working though. i know if you take the intake off (tried this to use starting fluid) it will not run at all.

well we got it to run 30 seconds or so by plugging a few vacuum leaks, and he has a few more hoses he is gonna replace as suggested by a local Yoter Guru.
from what i could tell the AFM checked good, but needed a crappy meter to test the higher resistance stuff. sucks a good meter won't rear high resistance.
