88 Pickup 88 4runner A/C swap ?? Help
Hey guys -
Any big issues you guys see with buying a complete a/c system from a 88 4runner 22r and installing it in my 88 Toyota pickup base model 22-re? It looks like the Evap /heater core share the same housing on the 4runner , looks like I'll have to uninstall my heater core as far as I can tell
So far. Will everything else be plug and play? Any help would be greatly appreciated .

I installed the A/C system from an 89' 4runner onto my 87' 4runner. It was actually super easy. Just bolt on, bolt off. You'll have to use a hole saw to put 3 holes in the firewall. If you pull back the carpet by where the passenger's feet go, the firewall is actually pre-dimpled for the bit where the holes should go. I don't recall the sizes, but that was the only remotely hard part.

Thanks for the info! I am hoping that it won't be a big deal that I have to remove my own heater core and adapt this new one from the 4runner. I just hope everything
will bolt on underneath the dash and my factory harness will be able to plug into it.I guess the a/c Evap /and heater core are all in the same plastic housing and that's different in my pickup.
Compressor and bracket all look the same so I'm hoping for the best.

It went well for my first a/c install. I bought the setup from the 4runner and everything fit except for the compressor bracket . I found this to be the hardest part to locate for my 88 Toyota pickup base model. I finally found one on eBay . For refrigerant I ended up purchasing a product called Freeze 12 that works with older R12 systems . Changed all the O- rings with a kit bought from Auto zone and now I have ice cold air.

There should be a assortment pack for your vehicle. There was a part number for my 88' that auto zone looked up on the computer. The o-rings are light green in color and can work with any modern refrigerants as well as R12.
If you guys decide to go the freeze 12 route , just pay shipping both ways and I'll lend you the hose adapter and professional valve tap I purchased . It will simplify the job.
