88 22re sputtering bad
I have an 88 pickup with a 22re that is my daily driver. the other day it started sputtering real bad. I replaced the fuel filter and it didn't change a thing. I checked the diagnostic code after that and it is throwing code 51. I checked the resistance of the tps in wide open and all the way closed and everything checked out fine. I can't find my feeler guages to check in between but I will today. Any ideas?

Check your injectors to see that they are firing (clicking). I discovered that my #1 injector failed causing major sputtering and hesitation. They are in the mail to be rebuilt.

i am having the EXACT same problem as you and i have done everything you have done so far. just tonight i determined that my wires are good because i tested with an ohm meter. i have replaced the tps with no luck and now my conclusion is i have a bad ECU. thats all i can think of im throwing the same code you are 11 which is the tps code as you know. ill be watching this thread. i plan on getting an ecu in the next couple days so if yours isnt fixed by then ill let you know how it worked for me.

Thanks. I am not sure about it being the ecu though. I drove mine everyday before it started sputtering and I dont think the ecu would just take a like that. Also, after i replaced the tps, it stopped throwing all codes. According to my ecu, it is perfect.

Yea 4 crawlers way is different than the fsm's in that it says to use a .85 mm feeler guage and my manual says to use a .47. not sure which is right, but either way I can't get my brand new tps adjusted right so I have no clue if that's it or not. It is really pissing me off and I am about to shove my truck off a cliff.

Does anyone know what the "vsv for as" is for on the valve cover? The wires had come out of the connector and i didn't notice. Could this cause my sputtering problem?
