87 steering box nightmares.
Anyone else had problems with steering boxes? In the last 3 years or so, ive been thru 4 Boxes. Original started leaking, put on a used one that lasted no time before it started leaking. Ive put on a new one, that lasted no time, replaced it and now this one is leaking. Anyone else have problems with these?

I resealed mine, and other than taking the spiral gear out(which the manual told me not to do) and having the individual ball bearings roll everywhere, it was pretty straight-forward.
Under most cases I've found it better to rebuild the genuine Toyota component whenever possible rather than get a aftermarket one. And a used one will typically have the same issues as the one you're replacing.(or worse)

I just bought a 88 pickup and found the last owner was not using ATF. The oil seemed thicker than power steering fluid but whatever it was I flushed the system out and replaced it with Mobil1 ATF, hopefully it didn’t destroy any of the seals, but time will tell!
