Re; charcoal canister...hose hook ups ?
My manual shows small hose from p-port on top of throttle body to small inlet top of canister. Does the larger hose from top of canister go to the right vent tube on fire-wall or the left one on inner fender panel ?

Yes, I have changed that. My book shows the small vacuum line off top of canister going to P-port at throttle body ....I have re-connected the larger hose from top of canister to the vent tube on inner fender panel [lower left of canister]
Truly appreciate the assisstance my books don't show where many of these go !

Co 94 PU, As you know coming behind someone else's "repair work" can be a frustrating challenge .
Have been looking up a lot of images related to this thread and I seem to notice a big difference between the years 87 & 88 Runners with 22re motors. Even differences within the same year ???
Especially regarding the vacuum routing, some have 3 or 2 types of "switched" valve junctions on top of rocker cover....just a tad confusing
So, I'll keep work'n on it

The differences you will and are noticing are optional equipment, air conditioning and that sort of thing. The only real change is the addition of the v6 to the lineup.

i was mistaken on the lower hose. It is the fluid over flow for the canister but it doesn't actually attach to anything. Mine routes down into the frame through a rubber grommet.
That hardline on the firewall is where my fuel pressure regulator returns to the tank, via a two foot section of insulated hose. I'm not certain what all my PO altered either, it's like an easter egg hunt mid July you might not want to find them but you'll be glad once the smell is gone.

Yes , the bottom hose is just a vent that goes down into frame rail and is open...
* since the motor at starting seems to be a bit starved for air [ think, n about the hard starting , rough idle , till warm and the "gas pedal"] is it not possible there is an air flow problem somewhere i could look into.
Now ,as opposed to several days ago the motor at start just needs a push or two on the pedal and it starts VS numerous tries at it.
At 1500-2000 rpm through the power band the motor runs great, actually pulls like a turbo at 3000 rpm !!!
I'll check it out Rad, Thanx !

I finally was able to make sense from the stock vacuum diagram on under side of hood....This runner did have air conditioning and the diagram shows certain vacuum lines going to a Switched valve block [designated AC ] attatched to top of rocker cover. this might be "part of problem" since the AC unit was taken out.

The more I'm get'n into this the more I'm look'n into the Cold Start system as a whole. As I stated earlier the motor had a blown head gasket, the head was quite warped. Overheating may have caused damage and excessive corrosion on /to the various sensors and switches related to Cold-Start.
I'm surprised how many folks have the same problem, a lot of web-site and youtubes addressing the issue
I will remove and clean, then ohm test the sensors, keep ya' posted !
