87 4runner Down on Power

So for starters this is my girlfriend's vehicle and I have no knowledge on these Toyota trucks. It's a 1987 4runner 4x4 with the 22re and five speed manual. As of recently it sometimes has trouble starting or I should say more trouble than usual (you typically have to pump the gas a little for it to start but it's been more difficult at times now) and most importantly it's down on power. It's struggles on the highway especially on hills (more than it used to) to the point where it's pretty much not drivable on the highway. It's worth mentioning that it runs great and isn't missing at all just has no power. This weekend I plan to do a complete general check over it (compression, vacuum, fuel pressure, etc). I figure I'll start by getting some new spark plugs, air filter, and fuel filter but my question is, is there anything specific I should look for that could be causing this issue?

As stated, timing, also vac leaks, egr stuck open, check for codes, obstructed air intake, tps, fuel pressure, burnt valve…
Your plug inspection, vac gauge reading and comp test is where i would start.

Will do. Also her pink seat covers are a bit of an indication it's not mine

Distributor cap-n-rotor, and plug wires too.
Valve alignment might help, too.
IACV is another possibility.

Let us know how things turn out
