86 to 91 axle compatibility
Hey guys. I've done a ton of searching on this and I think I know the answer. I have a daily driven 86 4runner with 31x10.50 Cooper stt's. I have a buddy that just put a 60 14 bolt combo in his 91 and so a got his rear axle and front IFS stuff, like slotted disk brakes, hubs, third member...everything. My runner is an auto with the 22re. I want to regear the extra third members with 4.88's and put a detroit in the rear. My question is..will the third members bolt right in? Can I use the slotted disks, hubs and axle shafts as spares for my stuff? Is there any real advantage to using this stuff? From what I read the v6 stuff is stronger. I plan on doing a SAS on down the road. Thanks for your help.

When you SAS, you'll be changing to a 8" diff in the front. So your 7.5 IFS diff won't work. I'd bet you could sell a 4.88 IFS diff pretty easy though.

Yeah but is the front in the 91 the same as the front in my 86? Would it be of any benefit to put the 3rd member from the V6 into my 4runner...or would I just have a spare part for everything?

yes i would not change them unless yours is broke, there is no advantage from changing"stock 2 stock"
