5 spd oil fill/check plug...
I have an 88 runner 22re 5 spd, which I think is the w56...I could be wrong on that call letter/number tho...I just wanted to double check on the location of the oil fill/check plug. It is on the drivers side I believe, there is only one big bolt head/plug that could possibly be it, but I just want to make sure before I go try and crack it loose. If I remember correctly, there were either some electrical or vacuum or some lines of some kind running near what I think is the plug, its about half way up the tranny. any insight to what bolt head size it is or some way to positively identify it would be much appreciated.
thanks in advance

On the V6 5spd, the Transmission Drain plug and the check plug are the same size.
24mm IIRC
my transfer check and fill plugs are also the same size, I think they are universal for our years.

My 1990 22RE 5spd (G56 though I think) has two 24mm plugs. Idealy you have a box wrench for the filler plug and a socket for the drain plug as the drain is recessed a bit into the tranny. I did both with a box wrench but I thik it would have been easier with a socket.

alright, thanks guys, i just wanted to make sure there wasn't another bolt head that could be mistaken for the fill plug, and would do some sort of damage or adjustment or something by taking it out, I am apparently reading too much into this. when i rebuilt the auto tranny on my mustang, there was a bolt coming out of the side, and i tried to take it out, and damaged something, it was something you had to get to from the inside, now i know that it is an auto, and from 66 not 88, and domestic and not foreign, but i figured it was worth checking.

back again guys, as someone mentioned, the fill plug rounded over, and Ihave not been able to get it off. I replaced the gasket on the input bearing retainer when I did my clutch, so a whole bunch of fluid came out, and i put back in what came out, but through the shifter tower. So I really don't know how much oil there is in there. I have not tried to get the drain plug out, so aside from draining all oil out and replacing the amount called for through the shifter tower, is there any way to tell how much is in there? is the fill plug steel, as in could i weld a rod on it to loosen it with, because it is now rounded over??
thanks for any help
