4wd not working on 93 Toyota pickup

Light comes on on the dash and 4wd works fine and so does 4wd low. Both hubs lock but one stays locked. Please help! New to this so any help is greatly appreciated

I assume you have ADD (Automatic Differential Disconnect, not the other ADD) and not manual hubs. (ADD locks and unlocks in, you guessed it, the differential).

How do you know "both hubs lock but one stays locked"? If you have locking on only one side you wouldn't even be able to tell with the wheels on the ground. (The diff would spin and you'd get no power on either front wheel.) Or do you mean they "lock" in 4Hi and 4Lo, but one stays "locked" in 2Hi?

Also when letting on and off the gas there is a popping noise that sounds like metal on metal. Could this be the universal joint? It's sounds like it's right below me
