If the timing belt did not come loose then it appears your engine destroyed a rod bearing.....common problem when antifreeze gets in the oil. So, when the head gasket(s) started leaking, DID antifreeze get in the oil? The banging you hear is likely the piston slapping the head. I just fixed one with this problem.
Lets hope the timing belt came loose. Drain your oil and look for metal particles. If a bearing destroyed itself, you will find lots of them.
Best of luck.....

Man....sorry for your frustration, Kyle. I know the feeling. If I live any closer, I'd glady help you out.
Don't give up totally, though. I mean look at it this way. Even another motor is still cheaper than a another whole vehicle. Even a 3.4 swap.
I don't what kind of tools you have at your disposal, but if it's turning over you can do a compression test. Pulling the timing cover to check the belt is pretty simple. You can start there even. You can test the injectors with a multimeter before sending them off.
I've got to get ready for work today, but when I think of something else I will post later.
Oh, and on draining your oil...just let a couple of ounces drain into a small, clean container...like a paper cup....and quickly put the plug back in. That first bit of oil will tell the story. The particles, if any, will be there. If it's the bearings, there will be a copper tone in the oil.
More later..
(Good grief...I just noticed this was a month ago. Any recent news?)

We got the problem fixed a while back, I just forgot to update my thread. Apparently the key on the passenger side camshaft had sheared off causing the gear to be turning but the camshaft was sitting still. Noone noticed it at first because the timing was still correct. It just took a little digging to find it. We got that sorted out and she purrs like a kitten now. She runs GREAT!! I've made two trips up to raleigh, about 2 hours away, and one trip to busco beach pulling a 15 foot dual axle trailer with 2 4wheelers and it has just been amazing and good on gas. I've been getting about 17 mpg. There was a small oil leak but I have since gotten that figured out and we are all good to go. Its a shame I gotta sell her but I have already taken possession of the WJ and the toyota needs to go. Thanks everyone for the help.
