4runner Rear Window Not working?

Ok well heres the scoop. I've had the truck a while and about a week ago i took the top off of it for well ya know to be cool in my runner. The rear window work great before i took the top off. Infact it worked like it was new it went up and down fast as balls. Anyway. Well ofcourse when you take the top off you roll te rear window down. Well I went to put the top back on about 2 days ago for rainy weather and i got the top on and bolted down. And I went to roll the window up and it didn't come up...... well i was like WTF of course cause its always worked. I checked all the fuses, wires(that were accssesable),plugs, connectors, ect. I volt meter checked the connectors and wires they all worked with charge. I tryed the key and switch inside to make it go up. Keep in mind it all worked fine before i took the top off. I even took the window motor out off it and tested it to the battery and it worked perfect so i'm kind stumped right now. Any hints or help or tipd would be awsome guys.

Im sure you plugged the wiper motor back in right?

And the window lock button is not on?

EVERY bolt is in AND they are all the same correct length?

Yea man i hooked it all back up with no tinckering and the window didn't work. Its almost as if there is no power going to the motor or the switches to move it. Everything worked before i took the top off and then al the sudden nothing works. The key way to roll it up does not work the button does not. I took the panel off and looked at it. Everything seemed fine. The motor worked but like i guess no power was getting to it or theres a short in the system. I dunno.

Someone else will know better, but there's a window switch to check that the top is on, like 2nd bolt from the back on the left side, i think? pull the plastic trim back and check that. It did it to me when i had the top off, i think i just fiddled with it and fixed it. Also, check 4crawler's place I know he has a lot on the rear window

I'm pretty sure its one of the back left, i think second from the back. Check hear http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTri...arWindow.shtml and i bet you can find it out, its one the common things that gives trouble

someone really needs to come up with something to deal with the rear window, like a manual crank kit, i know a lot wouldn't like it, but you would never again have problem with it

Ok new update i did swap the bolt to that place to where there suposeabley was a switch or contact in the hole that told the computer the top was on. I don't know if that fixed it or when i was tinkering with the lock mechanisim in the tailgate. Its like the window lock sping or somthing is trash or what ever is supose to hold it back is not. Cause i had to wedge the lock inside the tailgate back and its like halfway locked and halfway not but i can't open the tailgate now because like the lock is stuck and what i wedged it with is not there no more so its holding its own some how. But i thnk thats the only way the window works is with it like that. I got the window to work perfect now but the lock is like messed up. I think it might be the lock switch or something.

There are all kinds of safeties built into that window. You'll notice as it starts to go up that the lock drops to the down and locked position. This in turn prevents the handle from engaging and releasing the tailgate latches. Then there's a limit switch that stops the window from going up and down too far. All this stuff has to be in good working order or it all goes to heck. There are lots of plastic clips in there that hold everything in place. As they get old they get brittle and fail. Pull the cover and check everything over and you should see what is not as it should be. Sounds like you found the "secret" switch on the left side that needs the correct length bolt to activate. I just went through this with mine. Loads of fun to say the least. Good luck. Oh... once you get the tailgate open and the panel off, you can fool the window into thinking the gate is closed by flipping the latches on both sides to the closed position with a screwdriver. This lets you move the window up/down. Just be careful to support the glass when you power it out of the tailgate. The window channels in the top normally do this.

I found a short piece of wire with 2 spade terminals works better on that switch than the bolt, didn't help that the PO ran a bolt that was too long straight through the switch

As long as the cover top switch has a bolt in it, the tailgate is closed and the lock on the gate is pushed down the window will work.
