4runner rear tailgate interior panel mounting clips

Are these a dealer only part?
Does anyone have the p/n?

not sure about clips. my '87 has screws with a "special" washer that secures the cardboard/carpeted trim panel to the tailgate. as far as i can tell, the panel has no provision for any clips. certainly possible that toyota used multiple styles of panel attachment depending on trim level - fwiw, my panel is factory installed, clearly not aftermarket. srv. it was a back seat delete model, but i don't believe that affects the tailgate panel.

Right. I need the p/n for the plastic parts that fit in the square holes in the tailgate and those screws run in to. I'd put up a photo but am not near my truck.

it appears the part listed, 90189-04023 (count - 11), has been superceded by 90189-04155. the screws are still available, as is the new # grommet into which the screws attach.

i assume the linked photo shows the "grommets" that you are looking for, into which the screws attach? https://www.yotatech.com/forums/atta...pgrade-005.jpg

toyota is maddening as far as parts diagrams - there are two listed 90189-04023 parts, and they appear different.

Toyota parts deal has it listed under 90189-04023 and they just accepted my payment, so we'll see what shows up in the mailbox.

hope they have the part. i have ordered from a toyota site that accepted payment, but later cancelled the order because the part was NLA. they did refund/cancel the charges with no issue.

www.Clipsandfasteners.com has plenty of "nylon expansion nuts" to replace those. Just need to know pane hole size, size of screws, thickness of panel where nuts will be inserted.
I got nylon nuts (http://www.clipsandfasteners.com/Nuts_Nylon_s/126.htm) and trim screws (http://www.clipsandfasteners.com/sea...unk+trim+screw) to replace my much hated hidden fasteners on door and interior body panels.

No more stupid hidden fasteners that break every time you touch them on my doors or body panels.

i bought some nylon square nuts from oreillys that are for rear lisense plate screws and they fit great in the tailgate and the rear scuff guard trim.

great link, ray. however, these tailgate fasteners are not hidden at all, and are available through some dealers. low-cost, too.

Just FYI, i have used hot glue to resize/restore the screw holes on these type of grommets before and it worked great.

But in this case it's the square shank on the grommets that no longer hold securely in the tailgate. I'll go measure the square holes today
to see if they are 7x7mm or something else. I already bought a 164 pc kit of "Toyota fasteners" off ebay. They looked good in the pics but turned out wrong on the square shank. That, plus the ones i just ordered let this balloon into about a $35 problem. Oh, well. I'll have the new McLean panel installed for about $100. And it will look new. Photos to follow.

I measured the square holes and they are just under 7x7mm.
So some of the Toyota nylon nuts RAD linked above shoukd be the correct ones.

i've been running into that on this forum lately, too. the "workaround" for me is to hit reply to thread, and to insert photos first, before adding text. might be harder for quoting, though.

You guys having problem "attaching" to a post by clicking the paper clip icon, OR plainly uploading to Yotatech or other photo hosting site like imgurl... google photos, etc?

for me, it's when i attempt to use the "image" button, not the paperclip button - between the smiley and the broken link icon. this is using the quick reply function.
