Question 4runner 3vze strange starting problem

I've browsed around the forums plenty to see if anyone has run into an issue similar to mine, and I haven't found anything. Here's the problem:

When starting my 3vze 93 4runner, you have to start revving it immediately or the engine will putter out. If it doesn't start idling normally after revving it a few times, you can keep jamming the gas pedal again and again and it'll barely run until you hear a "pop" like something has been released under the hood and it'll idle and run fine after that. Absolutely no issues running, driving or idling after getting it cranked. Its easier to get it going after it's been sitting and the engine has cooled down and a little more difficult after driving it for a bit. Starting fluid in the intake helps with the initial firing most times, but you still gotta pump the pedal a bunch until you hear that "pop." I've had someone look under the hood while I'm starting it and there's nothing that is obvious making that popping noise. I've checked the flaps in the AFM and the EFI to make sure they are moving freely and the seem to be fine as far as I can tell.

Here's some background on what I have done to the truck (the issue existed before all this as well Plenum removed and cleaned, EGR delete (vaccuum lines plugged,) new 4 port injectors, fuel filter replaced, under hood fuel lines replaced, plugs & wires done, fuel pump replaced about 3 years ago when I bought the truck.

So...any ideas?

Cold start injector problem. Could be getting stuck in the on position. Triple check all the vacuum hoses are in good shape and going where they belong. Check the cold start injector switch too.

You can also try unplugging the cold start injector to see if that fixes your problem. The engine will probably have to crank longer before it starts.
