4.88 third

keep in mind though how far are you really planning on building your rig. if you plan to go with bigger tires later i would just get the 5.29s my opinion.... just shift quicker and you'll be fine lol.
and if you plan on getting 32s get a 33 lol. not much of an upgrade from 31-32

I'm running 4.56's, 33 x 12.5 BFG AT's on rock crawler steelies, 22re, 5 speed.
It feels basically back to stock. I was running 31's and 4.56's for the summer. Zippy for sure.
I've got the 4.88's sitting in my backyard, still contemplating putting them in or not.
I'll run a couple tanks through this setup and take it out on some hills, I'll let you know in a couple weeks if I still want to swap to 4.88.

I forgot you said you had 4.10s to begin with, 4.56s may be just what you're looking for to run 33s depending on what size of tires your truck came with. check this link out: http://www.tellico4x4.com/moreinfo/ratio.htm

hey. just wondering about swapping to 4.88's in my 4runner. I have a 4cyl 4runner 92' and its got 4.10's in it right now. i've heard that 4.88's come stock in v6's with the 31" tire package. so is it possible if i find one of those that i can put it in my 4runner? just wondering about if that's compitable with my 4runner. so yeah if i could get some thoughts on that it'd be great!
thanks
thanks
Are you sure you dont have the 4.30's in your truck?
It came stock with V6 trucks/4runners with the 31" tires and an automatic tranny. If its a manual, it was a 4.56:1
It uses it own housing. Pinion location is offset. The 430 and 456 housing is the same.

I have 4.10's with 31 x 10.50's, the truck came with the stock 225/75's. I can tell you it's SLOOOOOOOOOOOW with a 5spd 22r! From what I understand the 4.56's will get it close to stock but the 4.88's may increase acceleration but cause a dip in gas mileage. Does this sound right?

well the fact that it's a 4runner too probably doesn't help at all. there's more weight there than there is in a pickup. so mine would probably be slower too than yours is.
