my buddy at toyota just ran part numbers and the 88 is different than the 95 casting number wise. so i have an 88 and i need a motor bad so what should i be looking for? I get so many different answers that my head is spinning .this is what i am looking at but i dont want to buy something that wont fit, please help

I know I saw a thread either here or at pirate where a guy fitted the FE heads to a truck motor, I don't recall exactly how involved it was though.

I was told by a toyota mechanic once that the problem with the FE heads is the location of the distributor. In a camry, it's not an issue because of the transverse mounting but in a truck the distributor would be in the firewall. I believe the 5VZFE would have been the same if it didn't use individual coils. So, it is possible but VERY involved and time probably better spent on a 5VZFE swap IMO.

Yeah, not to mention the need for some kind of custom timing belt arrangement. Some guys have a hard time getting the factory timing belt on right, can you image trying to get the timing belt right on a custom one of a kind setup? No thanks
