3.4 swap
I also vote 3.4... I help put a 1U in an FJ & had to do twice the wiring work (for a cleaner install by our our choice).
I have a supercharged 3.4 in my rig & I'm never left for wanting more power... I'll break suspension pieces well before I need more power for wheeling.

the 3.4 will be an easier swap to do, but the 1uzfe is a great engine. If you can get around the fitment problems on our left hand drive american style 4runners, and figure out a way to cool a V8's worth of engine block in the confines of our 2nd gen engine bays, its totally the way to go. A few more kinks to iron out, but the payoff is seriously impressive. Plus, all those thousands to swap the engine out properly and you've only gained a few dozen horsepower. Okay, okay, the 3.slow is a dog of an engine and should be shot, but I don't necessarily think that its worth all the time and energy of doing the 3.4 swap when the 4.0 is nearly as easy. What the hell do I know anyway, I'm still sputtering along in my 3.0!

Friendly advice. I gave you the link and even posted the words cause I know you wouldn't bother to search for it.
https://www.yotatech.com/rules/updated/index3.htm
15. Searching (or a blatant lack of)
While you will not find a nicer, more helpful bunch than the YotaTech membership, anyone can grow frustrated seeing new threads with the same questions over and over.
A few well spent minutes educating yourself so you ask INTELLIGENT and INFORMED questions will gather much more attention from the seasoned members in the know than a lazy attempt to have the members spoon feed you information.
It is ALWAYS better to add on to an existing thread (if the information is pertinent) than to start another with the same information.
This makes it easier for the next person with fewer threads to pour over to gather their information.
More info on how to search can be found in our newbie section.
A word of warning. If you are a chronic "non-searcher" or if you feel the need to mouth off to either the membership or staff for telling you to search, your stay here will be short-lived.

Anyways, the 3.4 would definitly be easier, and with a supercharger, you wouldn't be hurting for power. You can find the engine pretty cheap if you know where to look. As for the supercharger, the lowest i've seen that is $2300. i think that was on the TRD site

Friendly advice. You are new so I thought Id offer and be neighborly. Your first 2 threads are both questions that have been asked and answered a combined 4.2 bazillion times on the internet, and at least half that many times here. A simple search or would have negated you posting either if you had not been too lazy to read the information for yourself. Ill give you the benefit of the doubt and we'll chalk it up to internet ignorance.
The honeymoon niceness of the forum will disappear quickly as the norm of the posters will soon tire of answering your redundantly posted threads asked out of a lack of obvious searching.
You can badmouth me all you want, I have a wife of 15 years so yours is docile in comparison, cause I already have the information you seek, and if I don't know I search many resources and read, thus why I know what I know. DO I know it all? By no means, but I'm not too lazy to search on my own nor am I so stupid that I insult those offering wisdom and insight.
Good luck with your stay here but my bets are it is shortlived, drama infested and that you won't ever do a SAS or an engine swap.
Vita sine litteris mors est.
