Thanks Dale.
I have not driven my truck in the better part of 7 months, so the new adaptor is on the shelf. Looks like it ought to work, but I do not have mine in.

The article I wrote on performing a 3.0 to 3.4 swap will be publishing in two installments in Off-Road Magazine, I believe in the June and July 2006 issues which should hit newsstands fairly soon. There will be lots of pictures and detailed tech. The truck I did was a 5-speed already so that made it easier but as far as the rest of the swap EVERYTHING is covered in detail including the battery relocation, charcoal canister, air filter, cruise control and even the tachometer fix. Once the magazine article publishes we will republish on the TLT website with large color images and even greater detail.
It's a fairly simple swap but like Adrian said, only go for it if you plan to DIY and keep the truck for a loooong time. Also if you are anything less than a wiring genius pay the money for a custom ORS wiring harness, it will save you countless headaches!

Static, the tranny swap wasn't hard at all. i used the 3.0 tranny cause it bolted right up and I did all of the 3.4 wiring myself. I also used the 3.4 charcoal canister cause I couldn't figure how to hook up the 3.0 canister correctly.

Sean, on this AC part of that thread:
"A/C Solution:
You need the electronic card from the 3.4L A/C cooling unit located behind the glove box in the donor vehicle. With the 3.0L configuration the card receives a signal from the negative side of the ignition, in order to work now it will now need to receive a positive signal from the ECU instead. You will need Toyota wiring diagrams to figure this one out."
Is the electronic card needed if you keep the 3.0 AC system in place and just swap out the compressor? That is what I was planning on trying if I can get the old 3.0 compressor lines to connect to the 3.4 AC compressor. Thanks

You can keep the 3.0 AC I believe with some modification. The one thing we never bothered to finish was the AC since some components needed to be replaced and it needed a charge anyway. Plus the owner of the truck lives in a fairly temperate place that never goes above 85° or so. One YT member who did a 3.4 swap early on gave me the info about the AC cooling unit. If you search you will find more recent info on that I'm sure.
I can verify the tach fix as I did that and it works perfectly. Same goes for everything else. Also since we did our swap ORS now offers a beautiful exhaust cross-over pipe so that takes care of one of the hardest and potentially most expensive parts of the swap.

Hey Sean, nice write-ups in Off-Road mag on the 3.4 swap! I just got my June issue and you mention that you were able to use the 3.0 cruise control. That's great because I was wanting to do that too. How do you get the cable to hook up to the throttle body?

Thanks for the positive comments! It's been nearly two years since we finished the swap so the finer details are not so fresh in my mind. It seems to me all we did was attach the old cable to the 3.4 TB. I'll have to check my notes and get back to you, otherwise it should be covered in next months issue of Off-Road.

I just got the May issue and was unaware that the June issue was already on newstands. I'll check my original notes and get back to you soon about the cruise control.

Okay, I couldn't find anything specific in my notes but after thinking about it some more it seems to me that all we did was attach the 3.4 cruise control cable to the old (3.0) cruise control mechanism and then do the same with the vacuum lines. I was so easy that I don't think we even bothered to note it.
I suppose there could be a way to retrofit the 3.4 cruise control mechanism but we didn't bother since using the old unit was so simple and after testing it on the freeway it was also effective. I drove to LA from the Bay Area on I-5 (300 miles) and used cruise most of the way with great results.

Thanks very much Sean. I'll look at the two together again. The first time I looked it seemed like the CC end of the two cables were different. Yeah, I don't want to use the 3.4 CC if I can help it.
