22re working hard 94 4Runner

My engine runs fine while giving it gas idle is a little rough. And when I accelerate in gear especially 1st and 2nd it sounds like it's working so hard has a new head and I get code 13 or 14 can't remember right now but I remember its failure to receive signal from ignition. So I'm guessing coil pack but everything tests out good. Just had a head replace about 10k ago. Hope it's not a gasket. No stumbles tho while Around 900 rpm but it idles around 500 some times lower. Cold start is good heads right up to 1300 and slowly comes down. Compared to my 87 this thing hauls up hills and accelerates nice after 2500 rpm but like I said it sounds like it's working so hard not sure what's up any help?

So the engine has a new head in it not a resurfaced could this be a torque issue. ? Engine is getting about 12mpg in town now I drive it a little hard just because I can't stand the engine bogging due to not enough throttle but I feel like that's only with my 2nd gen my 87 doesn't need that much throttle for take off. Once the engine is warmed up I get a surge between 600 to 700 rpm. Now if I adjust the idle screw it does go up but cold start it goes up to about 2k rpm or higher depending on how high I adjust it. Is this a fuel issue or a head install issue. I haven't check the codes since I cleared them. But When I did it was 13 or 14 and it was about the ecu not receiving signal from igniter 6 times in succession which makes me think it's a head issue. My igniter is fine and is sparking

Everything else is fine it doesn't over heat it doesn't ever idle up super high and stay.
I have fought with a tps before so I'm a little nervous to even test it. I am leaving on a 500 mile round trip Saturday and would like to get a little better gas mileage and I'm gonna be doing a even longer road trip in September so I need this thing to be solid. Any help please feel free to throw any suggestions or questions up I'm humble and willing. I am very worried that it's a issue with the head being torqued wrong. Is this something that's possible. I did notice it burning some oil at start up which made me think of the head

I'm not too sure what your problem is, but I'll throw something out there.

Take a look at this thread and tell me if that helps at all.

I doubt it's the head being torqued wrong, or the head gasket would be blown rather quickly I think.

Why not? Isn't that where you always start?
