22RE Milky Oil...
#21
tips for you - I just did this project
Get some metric self ratcheting wrenches. 12 and 14 MM are really handy. 14's Esp around power steering pump.
Most of the bolts are 12 mm everywhere except a few locations.
Get a 1/2" breaker bar. Harborfreight.com has cheap tools that work great.
Take pictures and mark every hose and wire.
Be very careful with marking distributor and timing chain before you pull them out.
Auto zone has a gasket set for $80.00. It is a cheap felpro set. I bought one online that was much better quality for $25 plus $14 shipping. go to cnsautoparts.com
My problem has been that I can't get the engine to run right. The oil is still a little milky. I think maybe I have a cracked head or something. My last advice, have the head checked before you put it back in. It's a lot of work to not fix anything.
If you have the time and energy, go ahead and pull the timing chain off and check everything out per the book.
Don't get confused by what you read here or anywhere online. Its just an engine.

a word of caution i have replaced 3 head gaskets on 22r engines with over 150k miles and two of them wound up blowing the rings. when you shave the head and get a valve job you will up the compression and you can blow the rings and the truck will start to smoke and lose power. then all you can do is rebuild it , but then you wont have to worry about the head!!

if you pull the timing chain off, might as well replace it, depending on how much you have to spend. im gonna have to take my intake manifold off soon to solder some injector plugs, and while i have that off, im gonna do the freeze plugs on that side, while they arent leaking yet, the other side is and freeze plugs r like 12 bucks. might as well since you're in the area, you know?

yeah sounds like you killed your hg, for your low budget it would be a good idea into learning how to do it yourself using the fsm and by searching the fourms. www.engnbldr.com is a great place to buy your parts, great service and good prices

Advance Auto, head gasket kit about $45. Have a machine shop check the deck on the head (for warpage)and just put it back together. Intake bolts are a pain, but a $12 Haynes manual will tell you what to do. One day job. While you have the head off, check cylinder walls for anything unusual.
