22re MAF Problem

22re MAF Problem
Can't seem to solve this-- been working on it for months.
I have a 1995 22re pick up. Couple months back started having troubles starting, the engine would turn over, but die, especially if I give it any gas (bogs right away). If I let it sit with the key turned, but not cranking the engine for a few seconds, usually it starts, revs, and will run. When running, idles really rough and slightly high. Loves to be in higher gears and extremely lurchy in 1 and 2. Runs extremely rich with bad mileage and exhaust smell.
I replaced the MAF, EGR, 02 sensor, and adjusted the TPS. Eventually took it to a shop who told my MAF failed (probably a bad part on Ebay) and put in a new one-- which seems like its failing again cause all the same symptoms are back. Shop told me my best luck is to find an original OEM part.
Is it possible to have two MAF's go bad in a matter of days or is this an ECU problem or even something completely different like a vacuum leak?
Any other ideas greatly appreciated. Need to take it on a long drive to move home in less than two months.

From what I understand, there's not new Air Flow Meters being made and most aftermarket ones are a mish mash of parts from other units. Toyota discontinued these quite some time ago so even the dealer is not an option now.
I would personally check the wire harness to the AFM by ohming out each wire. The factory service manual will guide you. I have found bad wires and rusty connection pins doing this.
